Thank you Philip for putting the commentary on the Race 2 video. Despite Clive's bad luck, it was great to hear the enthusiasm of the commentator for Clive's car. Nice to hear positive stuff about the rotary over the tannoy!

I really appreciate the time you've taken to put the video together to make it available on here :icon_thumleft:

Hello Malcolm, thank you for your kind words. Having 2 cameras is bad enough editing wise without adding the commentary  ;) It does make viewing more interesting which is why I do it for all you guys to enjoy. As you say the commentator has lots of enthusiasm for Clive's car and loves mentioning the fact that it is rotary which is great to hear  :great:

Nice driving in atrocious track conditions!

Having driven Silverstone in the wet last year on a trackday I found it to be one of the worst circuits for getting any grip in the corners  :-[

re japi

Great launch from the start. But seems like impossible to gain ground cause there are million Hondas around and blocking your way  :(
Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

Fitted new Tein 10Kilo springs on the back of the car yesterday, up from 7Kilo to try and help turn in which will maybe also let me brake later into corners.

Trying something unconventional with 10K on the front and the back because of finding after weighing that the car has just about  50/50 weight distribution.

After talking to Philip yesterday I found that he realised that at Silverstone and Snetterton in all three races the car cut out in an identical manner.

Philips observation has taken me down a different path and made me realise that the Bosch 044 is probably at fault, so today I am sending the pump and fuel regulator back for analysis.

If they cant find any thing obvious they are going to cut the pump open for a full inspection.

This makes sense, as on each occasion the car carried on running enough to get it back to the pits, possibly indicating  that the primary lift pump was still operating. Either way it will get a new 044 fitted.

Thanks to Philip's detective work via the videos,  the problem that has cost me the last three races has been found  :13:.

I sent the 044 and the regulator away for testing, no problems with the regulator but I have had the diaphragm renewed, BUT.

With the 044 on a test rig, it ran for around three minutes each time and stopped!! ( a lap at Snetterton is just over three minutes)

They then cut the pump open to find loads of metal swarf, which is obviously the culprit.

Even though I filter my fuel though a funnel it could be from my cans, or the stock Mazda pump assembly has eaten itself.

New Bosch 044, 12mm in line filter and a new pump/ pot assembly is on its way from Mazda as I cant trust that the filter is not blocked in the pot assembly  :-[

Talking to Philip tonight, explaining how at the weekend I need to go magnet fishing in the tanks, he came up with the brilliant idea of leaving a magnet in the tank to catch any other metal swarf that's  floating about , so I will actually strap a magnet in each tank.

Hopefully I can get the fuel system cleaned, sorted and back together this weekend and when the new Turbo arrives get the V band adapted onto the back and have the car up n running for next weekend, then off up to see Pip for a new map========== I so hope all this makes the car quicker  ::)

Thanks for the offer Tony,
I will strip everything out the tanks tomorrow, I have the strong strip magnets out of the steering rack and will use these if I can fix them to the side of the pots to lure anything metal in the tank. If these are no good I will keep your offer in mind.

New pump pot arrived from Mazda today and a new Bosch 044 plus a new bullet filter to fit between the swirl pot and the 044.

Do you know what the specs are on the new turbo? I know they have a 72mm available now, billet wheels etc. Is a journal bearing turbo or are you going for an EFR with the dual ceramic ball bearings??

This EFRs are making rotaries produce great torque curves btw, more area under the curve as they say
