Quick update before Clive does the main bit and vids...
Well what a scorcher...i got in hanging...god knows what Clive feels like today doing the driving bit and long haul back to Kent...
Well Hero to um...erm zero sums it up abit which shows Clives pushing....
So race 1 qualify 8th which is not a true reflection as some drivers being naughty and ignoring yellow flags got a distinct advantage plus only 5 laps to qualify..
8th to 3rd on start...frikin epic saw it from camp...then a spin back down the grid safety car and basically 1 lap to recover to 8th...car loose on rear end...
Some changes in the pit..
Race 2...6th to 2nd absolute hero! Saw it again from Camp...1st place guy spammed up 106 with Will deClaudio multiple Combe winner off into the distance..and guest of this series so Clive held 2nd for all off race til brake issue last lap caused a spin and lost ground. Recover to come home 6th...no engine issues atall...its learning time and set up tweaking...i had a great day out without the spin on Race 2 wouldve been a 2nd place out of 42 ! But 6th still great and Clive is gathering info on the car all the time....it was very hot yesterday which meant the car was working overtime..intake temps/coolant temps wouldve been up reducing power as it does on turbo cars esp. So all good...Winner winner Chicken Dinner! Vids should be epic!

Thanks Ray, all loaded up and ready to go  :).

Here you go you can hear live commentary on Monday if you want to ;) http://tsl-timing.com/event/181968

Was anyone able to listen to the live commentary? I couldn't get it to play for Castle Combe but other circuits played fine

Philip, no luck here either. I got the timing and mapping OK, but the bottom line of the timing screen which usually has the commentary "play button" option, was missing. I tried a few other circuits and found one other that was working, but several others weren't operational either. A shame  :(

Pleased to hear that Clive finished both races OK. I'm sure he'll be disappointed with his overall placing, especially in the 2nd race where he was running 2nd right close to the end, although he had 4 cars very close behind him for many laps. I think he did well to keep them at bay for so long.

I'm sure Clive learned a lot more about the handling of the car and where he might be able to make changes. At least he had no engine, mechanical or electrical problems by the look of it, bar his brakes in the 2nd race maybe.

It's a massive improvement on the last outing to Combe  :13:

#2018
Jon's post summed most of the day up. (thanks for the spannering Jon)

Qualifying was the weirdest ones yet with cars becoming lemmings all over the place chucking themselves off the circuit all over the place resulting in just two flying'ish laps with yellow flags all over the place till the session was red flagged with a Pug hitting the barrier hard in front of me at Quarry.

Had I been able to get some laps in and learnt about the changes to the car, I could have changed the set up.

First race as you have heard got off to a flyer "but" the car felt horrible with no front feel and the "snap oversteer" into chicanes and tight corners reared its ugly head again putting me into a violent no warning spin, a spin that starts going into the chicane and ends with spinning on the exit on the third lap  So I to became a Lemming!  But still finished 8th of 27 finishers winning a nice trophy  for winning my class and the Nippon Challenge

Between races we put 3lbs into the rear tyres and with the aid of Jon changed the front roll bar back to the stiffer one.

For the second, I had another fairly good start even though I got the revs just a little wrong and got myself into second from eighth of the grid and held that till the last lap running defensive lines,  BUT during the last few laps the pedal started to disappear on me  making it harder to stop the car and then going into the chicane after quarry on the final lap the pedal went straight to the floor operating the rear brakes only which instantly turned me around!

This is the first time ever I have had the pedal disappear, but then consider that the car had never raced in 28 degree temps which was hard on the car, me and most of all brakes. Wow was that one hot hard fought race for a 6th place, still won my class and the Nippon Challenge though but hugely disappointing that second place got away from me

Once again many thanks to Jon all all the people who came along with support.

p.s. could have been worse, it was sad to see the blue Civic I fought at Brands and then was fighting  in the first race, grenade itself with an engine that cost 14.5 K plus the other cars that crashed, at least the car came home all intact despite the spins and the adverse heat  :)

p.p.s Brake vents, maybe a roof vent and possibly a rear geometry change is next on the cards before the next outing

All the best Clive

re japi

Damn, quite epic event then...  ??? I tryed to listen that live commentary but for some reason I couldnt...

That brake issues was a shame...  :( Dunno can bonnet vents do much for brake temps tho...

How was cars overall balance then?

How much that blue Civic has horses btw? Cause that engine is ridiculous priced...

Great Pic Jon,

Jarno, the Civic wins a lot of races 300bhp class but probably more in a car that's super lightweight compared to mine.

Not up on Honda's but apparently it uses a different type of Honda engine adapted into the shell, to give an idea of power, he first fitted it at Silverstone and the power broke a drive shaft  straight away

Balance for the second race was good with the stiffer roll bar at the front but I must find out why the car is so unstable in the entrance to the chicanes when I have to turn the car tighter
All the best Clive

Jarno google honda k24...its not an engine honda made a k20 head on a 2.4 block or summit like that..high compression na with aggressive vtec..summit like that.
