Oh just remembered, when you go too that kind of gear box you get the amazing piece of engineering called a hydraulic clutch release bearing, gives you more option of clutches and much cheaper too.

The hydraulic clutch release bearings they do for our chocolate gear boxes are £800 from the states!!! I know what I’d rather save that money for

What does the aero “feel” like then comparatively too what a standard rx8 feels like?

I was always trying to keep the RX-8 close to stock if possible chassis wise but the more I want from the car the more it has to become more of a proper race car  ???

Yes, I do understand that. And its actually very cool way to show how good car 8 really is...

But there is that problem, wanting more and more :)

Btw, google Sainz gearbox (or something like that), they do reasonable prized seqvential boxes. And Samsonas gearboxes are really awesome.  Bro has talked with their spesialist about butting their box in his 7...

I have been youtubing racing RX8 vids almost as long as that car have been in production. Thailand, Japs, Kiwis and Aussies have some awesome 8s! I always thought that car has lots of potential. Unfortunately that modern crap slows it down. Heavy electrics, comfortable seat, emision stuff. Okei, its suppose to be family saloon but still... :)

Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

I realized few days ago that what Mazda did wrong in marketing / selling RX-8. They really should have had Coupe Sport version with this saloon. Even thought same specs, but still. I think that people did wanted that...  Think about early RXs models, coupes were very popular... Just a thought...

Jarno, as its the same floor pan the MX-5 NC was fitted with the Rotary and had back to back tests against the piston engined version before they is settled on the piston MX-5. A few MX-5OC got to drive these Rotary versions out in Germany. This would have been exactly the car you was talking about.

Grant, good heads up, but I was playing with McLeod hydraulic release bearings many many years ago when I was still involved in Drag Racing ;)

Gear Box was a good call, as the car is now developing,  maybe for the year after if I get real serious with a different engine and running in a series with full slicks, lets see how next year goes.

I wonder what the difference in weight is between the 8 and an mx5 and also the difference in weight the piston mx5 had too the rotor powered one??

Yes,  I did know that its same floor pan.. But I didnt know that they tested MX with rotary. I thought that rotary were never even an option for them... But when you think about how popular MX is, its kind of proofs my point...

I think MX four banger is actually quite light weight. So I dont think that there is much weight difference there... But everything else is much lighter. MX doesent have so much unnecessary crap like hifi stereo system. Also just seats alone are heavy at 8...

Btw, Kees charged highpower MX is quite good example for how awesome MX could be with rotary engine

Grant Monkhouse

1100kg - 1150kg for the mx5 NC

1309-1373kg for the rx8!

I bet those rotary powered mx5s were very quick having basically 2 passengers less weight in them!
