Been quiet of late on the thread but still been at it developing  the race car.

I have refreshed the engine, carried out oil system mods by baffling the sump with a surge plate venting oil system via a vent pipe from the front engine cover and the rear turbo drain which in turn meant a modded oil catch can.

Biggest mod has been designing, making a new inlet system fitting a ported stock lower inlet which now puts the fuel injectors where they were designed to be then the next problem, as you will see from the pictures was fitting an upper manifold of some description due to the shape of the RX-8's bulkhead then fitting the RX-8 throttle body to it,

My solution was to fit a ported to matched to the lower FD  manifold and as you will see from the pictures time-wise this proved to be the biggest challenge !

I have also fitted two EGT gauges so when the car is being mapped we will get an indication of temperature inside the engine from each exhaust port,

Looks good clive have you weighed the car at all? What side plates have you used? Turbo2 plates so the engine is mounted from the centre plate?

Thanks Grant,

FD engine with engine mounts conventionally at the back of the engine.

Still no idea of weight, but with no tupperware panels I would suggest a lot  :(

Tupperware panels!!! Haha I guess the roll cage replaces a lot of weight that you take out doesn't it plus you have added a turbo system. Rx8s are 3000 pounds??

Grant Monkhouse

So that's 1363 kg which in all fairness isn't that heavy compared too some other cars like skylines etc. That's 100kg more than an FD if I remember properly? I'm sure there's plenty you can get out of it once the car is running 100%. Either make it lighter or make more powaaaaaah lol to go even quicker

exiled-viking

will you still get the same or more induction into the turbo ???

Induction to Turbo will be the same,  but all this work has been to make sure the air/fuel mixture is distributed into each inlet port evenly.

If this is as efficient as I believe it will,  it should give an increase in power through the whole rev range over the previous induction arrangement   ;)

sorry for not putting my point over very clear, but clive got the grit. thanks  ;)  yep understood  8)

Great progress Clive - that induction arrangement looks really neat in the engine bay. Some great welding/fab work there too  :)

Interesting update. Would be nice to see dyno figures how it effects, before and after...

That turbo is massive btw, I thought you are running quite small turbo... :)

FD is about 1260kg. I have been thinking and talking about rx-8´s weight with lot of people. I think that 1100kg is achievable, but not easy. After that, need lots of work and tupperware ;) I really need to get me self rx-8 shel, I want to know what can be done to it...
Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

Great update Clive. Will Deffo make some time to come to some of the races this year... I hope you get a proper chance to race! :)

It's just a medium size turbo for a rotary

Unfortunately the series organiser has been messed about so we have a revised 2016 Race schedule.

Due to work commitments and with Donnington Park now cancelled it means that my first race will Silverstone then Japfest the day after.

Nippon Series will race on the Saturday then MR2's and a Race program will run at Japfest.

Most strange as Japfest till now had always been about track day stuff all day.

Hopefully Phil Collard and Paul Buckmaster will stay over the next day with us for Japfest.
