2nd??! Did the skyline or 200sx get DQ\'d? As for 400hp limit........ Hmm I would double that for the skyline and 200sx. Running 1.19s per lap

I think my timings may have been mis heard when I read them out for the second race:( I recorded a best of 1.27 from Clive. This was on a busy grid of 36 cars!! So there was a lot of traffic during those laps. The fastest lap I recorded was actually on a yellow flag on the last corner of which Clive slowed down and was probably the best lap with little traffic. So I would say a couple of seconds lost on the 1.27 lap which puts Clive a little closer too those 2 monsters at the front.

A good 2 bar of boost map by jaydee should see Clive stressing the 2 datsuns

Looks like the 7 sec improvement might have been a little optimistic

Can\'t work out why 2nd in class, unless some DQ\'s up above?

Doesn\'t detract from a superb 1st outing on a track Clive has never driven before!

re japi

Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

Starting from near the back is never going to see the fastest lap times as you are constantly having to position yourself to overtake, whereas the guys at the front are not going to experience this, until the later stages of the race. Lap times then tend to be closer to those of the bunch as they negotiate back markers so Clive\'s times are not far off the mark when this is taken into account, which considering a first run out for the car, on an unfamiliar track and with the car still at the shakedown stage is a bloody great result.:god

First up HUGE thanks to all who came along to support and help in many different ways :Thumbs-up

Practice was dismal with a misfire plus trying to learn the circuit which left a rubbish time of 1.38 to sit me on the back of the grid!

However Jaydee of Powergains worked tirelessly through the whole day to track down why, remapping the car again and again to rid me of the missfire by the second race.

The second race I really enjoyed although the results don\'t reflect, dicing for lap after lap with a wolf in sheep\'s clothing  Super GT class Suzuki Swift, a car which weighs as much as a paper bag and runs a powerful Turbo lump.

Andy with the Suzuki has won Nippon Races outright before so having a race with him was at least a step in the right direction.

As he said after, at first he tried to pressurise me into a mistake but  realised that wasn\'t going to work, but like he said "at least we put on a show for the crowd" , before he got me under a yellow flag! ( I think he was docked later for this)

Real shame the camera did not work as I was at times three abreast to get past cars at times, enjoyed that :).

I will say though that the two dominant Nissans out dragged me like crazy down the straight, so this means we need to get some more power into the car, which happily we can with a bit more boost :chat

With the misfire gone, we ended up with a 1.27 lap, not good but a big 11 second improvement over my 1.38 qualifying time

At the end of the day as a team we made big steps forward all day long and surprisingly came home with two trophy\'s, now I have to find some proper speed out of the car.

Shocked particularly by the trophy from the second race and can only think that there were exclusions for driver or car "irregularities" as I was told some we huled up before the stewards.

Now the work begins------------------------------------------------

Tire temperatures are very even around the car with a front end that I know where its going and what its doing, braking and brake balance is fine so this is a good start, however I feel we need a geometry change to the rear suspension to cure the rear stability problem it has, so a change to another rear set up I have will happen before the next race and of course a bit more power from the Hayward engine under the hood:D

Well done and thank you to all you good people who have helped with the project in so many different ways to get me back behind the wheel of a proper Rotary Racer :god
All the best Clive

Well done to Clive and the team but remember.....Don\'t make it too quick or they will just ban rotaries!

Thought I would share this as a fun thing,

My hugely understanding Lisa was at the Brands Hatch Speedfest working while I was "playing" at Donington on Sunday and presented this to me as it amused her  when I got home :Hammer

One of the ideas behind all this whole project is to show people the "Rotary" and hopefully destroy a few myths along the way, this started sooner than expected !

7am Race day morning, the race organiser approaches me and immediately says , so why are these RX-8\'s engines no good and so unreliable (wow there was an excellent start to the day)

I quickly explained that the biggest reliability problems came from the ignition coils hurting the engines and not the engine itself and left it at that :Hammer:Hammer

Yesterday  I had a call from the same guy who told me that he now wanted more info on how to actually look at buying an RX-8 as he will now look to go back racing in his own series with one.

We can now put this down to another successfully I have poisoned to the way of the Rotary   :Thumbsup!:D
All the best Clive

^^ Great story Clive :)

OK, big drum roll please................

Team Haynsford "IT Manager/Media Manager/Video Producer" (aka Casey :p) has managed to get some in-car video footage of the 2nd race up on YouTube! Two issues though;

For some reason the video stops before the end of the race :Hammer
