Now for something different to fly the Rotary flag before the next Nippon Challenge Autumn Trophy at Silverstone on the 15th of October, I've entered into the British Sprint Championship at Goodwood circuit next Saturday.

Reason, it gives me the rare opportunity to drive the fabulous Goodwood track with something that's got some power (just had the car re-mapped to give 450bhp  )

Should be an interesting day with around 80 cars entered in various categories there will be lots to see.

Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

Looking great in the sunshine there Clive  :great:

Good luck tomorrow  :)

Home match at Colchester tomorroew so I can't make it to spectate. I also have some prep work to do on my car in the morning before a trackday at Donington on Monday (travelling up on Sunday)  :13:

Looking forward to seeing your results with the extra BHP!

No ideas if they even had out  trophys as we left early ( read the next post ;).

Well what a day but now I know why this track is so special  :00123101: also why its so daunting for many  :( (more of that later)

I found Sprinting is a totally different discipline, sort of Drag Racing with corners and almost feels non competitive like a track day, BUT due to what I found mainly due to the drivers it was a brilliant relaxed way of going racing    :great:

As there are classes for road cars with no mods like roll cages, literally you just need to afix a timing plate on your car and away you go, and at  £140 it was cheaper than a track day.

First off I unfortunately gave the kiss of death to a nice driver with a brand new 17 plate Caterham who told me that he had raced many times here before---------------and then went out and promptly took the front off his nice new car  ???

As for my car, WOW, after wandering around in the RX-4, what a thrill to drive this famous old track with some power, even with poor exit speed onto the back straight I glanced down to see 145mph showing on the spedo  :) With its new WGT map it's now holding boost properly (14 psi) and is a completely different animal to drive, so so looking forward to the next race.

As for the day itself, getting under 100 seconds seems to be deemed as quick and I had a 101 on both runs, with some idea of how to wander round the track faster than my previous visits, I was having an excellent run third time to be stopped with a red flag on the back straight.

A Honda 2000 had decided to destroy itself on the way into Magwick but luckily the driver only received a broken ankle, but a least he survived!, like I said this is why this track is so daunting for many, this also ended the meeting there and then.

As for results, well I finished second in class to the M3 pictured running on Avon Slicks which a couple of drivers pointed out to me was a big money car well sorted car with well over 100K spent without actually factoring in buying the car!

I found that there is also another club that runs Sprints at Goodwood so a trip next year looks to be on the cards mixed in with my normal races.

BTW I know Jonathan on here sprints but I also found that there is also a stock engined RX-8 that competes regularly.

(Jon and Malcolm etc, these events would be great for a giggle for you)

Turns out whist I got knobbled for having a Rotary and then a Turbo and thinking the slick shod Monster BMW  No 53 would have been loads faster! / results came on a mail today and I won my class!!

Well done, not bad for a spinning Dorito motor.

Well done, it's good to see a rotary doing so well in competition.

Results via THE POST?!

It had to be Goodwood... ;) :) Have they discovered electronic mail and the interwebby thing yet  ;D I suppose they were using stopwatches on the day too (but did they remember to wind up the mechanisms first?) ;)

:) :) Many congrats Clive, a result to really cheer you up and some reward/payback for all the effort you've put into developing your car  :13: :icon_thumleft:

Real shame I did not put the go-pro on for other laps at Goodwood but here is the half a lap before I was stopped on track and the event abandoned and although a super short video, it shows I now have more power than chassis under me now, so I'll really have to drive it now  .

Roll on Silverstone in two weeks time where I can see how it fares against the 650bhp Skyline and the super quick Subaru, let alone the other 38 cars on the grid  ;) .

Here you go, the super short video https://youtu.be/uf6XLb0MLXU
