Hi all, basically I\'m after a RX7 and have been researching for a while but I have joined this forum to get some actual owners views.

I\'d be using the car as a daily driver with a 5 mile commute to work; basically I\'d like to know;
Servicing - general cost for a service and how often? 6k miles is 12 months for me is that ok? Obviously with me checking the engine every few months.

Am I ok with running it for just 5 miles or does this tie in too warming up and down? Is warming up just idling until the temps are up? Is cooling down just letting the engine idle before turning off?

Import vs uk car - doesnt really matter to me tbh!

Mpg - about 20-25?

What are key things to check for when buying?

My budget would be 4-6k.

Regards

Scott

only using it for 5 mile commuting WILL kill the car prematurely..
a rotary needs to be run HOT every time you use it, to last "a lifetime"!\\
not running it hot, will cause more carbon buildup, more apex seal wear and possible clogging issues over time..
the exhaust might rot away aswell. normally RX-7 exhausts last for 15-20 years easy due to the fact that they run very hot.

wrong use is also a big cause of the RX-8 deaths at young age

no offense, but with a budget of 4-6k and everyday 5 mile commuting, you should stay away from FD\'s :)

and to add:
normally i would advise oil change every 5k, but when you drive a lot off short distances the oil does not run hot.
oil in a rotary gets fouled pretty fast compared to piston engines, but running it cold will speed this up...

oil change twice a year would be advisable, you could perhaps skip the filter every other time, but for those couple of penny\'s, just do it.

i think mpg\'s will go around about 20, if you drive it like a granny..
my FC does 20 STOCK, and an FD uses more

I was worried the short journey wouldn\'t be good for it, happened to kill my mates rx8! O well 350z or s14a for me!!

Is that all you want a 7 for, commuting? If you want it as a nice car to own and use on weekends/evenings, track use, personally i would buy a bike or daily economical shed and get the 7, far far nicer than a s14a, 350z is nice, but nothing like a 7!

i want it for my car, havent got a bike license and dont really want to be insuring two cars at 23 as ill be getting my pants pulled down.

Push bike dude :)

I used an Rx7 as a daily for a short while, a similar journey, it really didnt work out well, plugs oiling up etc As said above, they do like to get up to temperature and be given a regular spank to get the best out of them :)

Also not 20/25 mpg short journeys will be sub 20 realistically,I used mine as a daily for years and people do but you gotta give it a good redline run every week and keep on top of it.

Assuming you\'ll be hooning to work and back, bank on about 12mpg.  Your 23 so don\'t expect the insurer to wine and dine you before he bends you over.  This will be a hugely expensive car to commute in.  Go buy one though, they\'re awesome :)
