Back in the day when I had my 1995 fd got it through an mot with no cat due to there being some law cause it\'s an import it didn\'t need one.  The mot station told me it needed one but told them to ring their head office and I was right :) so happy days

Cheers

My car has a straight through system fitted with no cat or silencers and it passed. I see no reason why yours wont. Talk to Sicknote (dave), he does MOT\'s. Dont know how local he is for you tho...

Simple way to check the figure you need to hit is by using the directgov site for vehicle enquires

I have a \'92 import and the report back states my CO2 emissions are zero so no testing for me.

I also checked a random \'06 911 turbo to make sure this tied up and it states 302g/km

Your car, as a pre-Aug 1995 import, qualifies for the old emissions test of 3.5% CO.  If the engine is running properly you should pass this WITHOUT needing a cat fitted.  If you have over 3.5%, your engine is running rich and you need the fueling adjusted.

Incidentally, CO (Carbon Monoxide) and CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) are totally separate things.

CO2 is produced by normal combustion of fossil fuels in air (and also when you breathe out).  The amount produced is basically a measure of fuel economy.  For cars after about 2001 (RX-8s), CO2 emissions are measured when each new car *model* is launched, and the annual road tax (and company car tax) are based upon the CO2 emissions.  CO2 is *not* measured at MOT.  For older cars (RX-7s), CO2 is not rated and is irrelevant - road tax depends on registered engine capacity only.
The link provided allows you to check the rated CO2 emissions for road tax purposes, and is irrelevant to MOT and irrelevant to RX-7s.

CO is produced when the fuel doesn\'t burn completely.  CO is poisonous to humans if there\'s too much of it.  A properly tuned engine will produce a small amount of CO - running rich will produce a lot more.  A catalytic converter changes the CO into CO2, which is non-toxic.  CO levels are measured at MOT, the standard required depends on the age of the car.  As stated, UK cars after Jan 92, and imports after Aug 95, must meet a much lower CO limit which can generally only be achieved with a cat fitted.  Older cars have a higher limit, which can be achieved without a cat, as long as the engine is not running too rich.

FC3S - no cat, no air pump = 2.37% CO
FC3S - no cat, air pump = 0.18% CO

I\'m down at the garage now and he is saying that the emissions test is a cat test but mine is a 94 import! Not sure how to go about this!!

Hey gibby was yours a decat and was it mapped by an apexi?

gibby250983

No de-cat or an apexi FC commander! Just lowered the idle to about 700-900 and sailed right thru!! Over the moon with it!!
