I emailed confused.com as I was having problems getting a quote on the RX that I want.

I sent them the following:
"Hi I have tried the online system but it couldn\'t find my vehicle which I want quoting on.

I need a quote on a:
1992 Mazda RX-7 Type R

It is a Japanese import. The engine is a 1308cc Twin Turbo, although some insurers have it listed as being around 2600cc.

It has a Cat1 Alarm and imobiliser as well as an RAC tracker"...etc...etc...

I got a reply:
"Hi,

After contacting Mazda we have found that the problem lies with the central ABI insurance database who gives out codes for each car based on the details that they have, and they have your car listed as a 2616cc engine.
We have informed the central ABI centre, but I am not sure how long it\'s going to take them to fix it. As the majority of insurance companies use the same system we do, a lot of companies are having the same problems as ourselves.
If you do a quote but with a 2616cc engine you will get quotes, but you will need to contact the individual insurance companies so they can amend your quote manually to get the correct details on your insurance certificate.
Sorry we are unable to be more help."

So do you think we might see the correct option for engine capacity sometime soon for insurance quotes? I hope so, I also hope the prices might go down as well. Wishful thinking I know!

cheers

No and No :p

With half of them you are lucky to even get 2616 listed properly!

tell \'em to kick the DVLA\'s ass they will always be group 20 or so the only saving you can get from smaller engine recognition is for tax.....

Try chris Knott (AON) I think you can get a club discount. They get it insured as a future classic. Never found it cheaper anywhere else !
