So i insured her again yesterday and taxed her this morning but now she doesnt want to play ball. After realising the ms01s caught on the caliper on the front, i stuck a pair of the rpf1s on only for them to catch on the spring. Added a 5mm spacer went to start her up again and she appeared to have flooded. Does everyones flood this much or am i doing something seriously wrong? Shes been laid up for a while and only used on and off so after some regular use will she get better as right now she seems to flood wheni start her 1 in 4 times. I am worried i can never justify going somewhere as ill just get caught on a petrol station forecourt or something. Felt great to drive1km up the road even with my wheels taking the paint off the coilovers but i need to sort this starting/flooding thing as i dont trust her all right now.

Well, I\'ve only managed to flood my FC once and that was my own fault...

The basic rule is to make sure that the engine is fully up to temperature before turning it off...

Using that rule I had no trouble with the RX8 when I had it or the FC now

Do you have an egi or a t2? There is an egi plug under the dash on the drivers side, you can up plug that and start it, this stops the car from pumping more fuel into the engine. Once it\'s started plug it back in and off you go :)

nic3s

B.Martin - i have your old egi remember?!

Binox - this could be the issue then. I have just givem her a glorious run and near full fresh tank of super unleaded and now she seems to have awoken from a deep sleep. I was thinking to myself what the hell am i bothering for this car, but as soon as i filled up and got onto a narrow twisty b road, it suddenly made sense again.

I may have said some things in haste yesterday but we are friends again.

B.Martin

Ah yeah sorry I forgot, it used to flood on me all the time. :Giggle

The egi is notorious for flooding, reach underneath the d/s and find a large plug pull that out and start it, then plus it back in before it dies or you can let it die then plug it in and start it. I\'m not sure if the second option is so good for the engine, once you\'ve done it a few times though you\'ll get the hang of it as be able to do it from the seat.

Hope this helps, I took mine round some lovely twisty roads today. Love it.

Mine\'s only ever flooded once and that was my own fault. Before I turn it off I hold the revs at 2k for a few seconds then just turn the key, never fails (for me at least!)

nic3s

Im starting to wonder if its flooding or if the starter motor is a bit buggered.

It turns over fine even splutters and kicks out fumes as if its about to start but just doesnt fully spring into life. Is this what they do when they flood?

I will try and find the plug. God i it works as its seriously driving me nuts now. Its like every other time it does this and im now doing proper journeys.

How does holding the revs at 2k before turning it off? Clear the fuel from tne system?

B.Martin

When was the last time you replaced the spark plugs?

Find that egi fuse, that will allow you to start with no issues. It only used to flood on me after short journeys.

nic3s

Ok got her going again by removing the egi comp fuse under the bonnet. She started straight away with my foot flat down. Are you talking about the egi fuse inthe fuse box in the drivers footwell or is there a seperate fuse for easy access?

I think im getting the hang of this slowly... :d

nic3s

Ni idea on the plugs shes a bugger all use by me since buying her in june. Plugs, oil and filter are on the list tho.

B.Martin

Well you could take them out and clean them, see if that helps. The egi plug is directly inline with the steering wheel but under the dash if my memory serves me correctly. It\'s quite a big plug maybe an inch or 2 and it\'s the only one there so it\'s easy to find.

grinder

IIRC the egi fuse is under the bonnet

I can remember when my EGI flooded , i had no idea what to do , so called the AA

He got it running in seconds , it was a nasty trick but worked fine , clamped the fuel line in the engine bay with locking pliers

start the car , remove the pliers

simple :D

Yeah I removed the \'EGI COMP\' fuse from under teh bonnet and she started straight away but died, then plugged it back in a she started fine.

If a car like mine is prone to flooding is it safer to always start the car with your foot planted on the throttle or will that have an adverse effect?

B.Martin

Of your referring to the fuel cut procedure with your foot planted, then I can\'t see a problem as long as you avoid revving the knackers off it first thing :)

grinder

im not sure if the EGI has the full throttle fuel cut - i thought that was just the turbo\'s ???
