PC & Norton security

My new pc came with Norton security loaded for a trial period.

When this ran out I took the easy route and subscribed.

Now the games I were running through \'Steam\' won\'t load.

They try and then nothing happens.

I guess it\'s a setting, I\'ve looked but can\'t see anything.

Anyone got any suggestions

Could be it\'s built-in firewall blocking the steam client.

Which games were these in particular john? i know norton can have a habit of killing of Punkbuster clients that run in the background, this has been a problem for a friend before. like Iaint says, its most likely that there isnt an exception in the firewall list for Steam, and thats why it wont boot your games, im not sure how easy it is for you to add this but if your still having problems im sure i can find a tutorial or something...

I\'ve been playing rage during the Norton  trial period and it was ok with it until I subscribed - too much of a coincidence for it not to a related issue.

^^ I agree, try temporarily disabling the Norton Firewall component form the Norton Control Panel and trying Steam again. If the problem disappears then you know where the problem is. If the problem is with Norton then it will need to be configured to let Steam traffic (:Laugh visions of steam trains....) communicate through the firewall. There should be some info on the Steam website on how to do this but if you have trouble, let me know the version of Norton you are using and I\'ll see if I can dig up the instructions. I now have the means to remotely access any PC (with the user\'s permission of course) very quickly if it comes to that..:evillaugh

Did you upgrade the product when subscribing? For example, from Norton Antivirus to Internet Security. That would explain it.

It\'s had 6.7 million hits on the Steam Support website and concerns firewall issues, so seems a reasonable punt.
