Alright guys,
have you guys got any sites you can recommend for parts upgrades etc?
looking to get some prices for upgrading the car.

as im new to the mazda scene could use your help.
such as the light conversion from popup to glass/plastic? do i need a full front end or just new lights? or is there a specific name for the mod?

Cheers

Superb mate! thats exactly what im after! *bows*

also, keep in mind, this is a rotary.
You cant tune it in the same order as a piston engine.

What car you have, what are your mods now? That is a good starting point.

hey Oyvindjs,
My Thread
its fully standard at moment apart from exhaust.
I have the RX7 Type Rz, iv been reading up on some sites about single turbo\'s and the flow of air etc, got some good ideas. how often do you change the oil or refill / topup?

oyvindjs

that is one nice starting point indeed!
You even have the spirit R footrest plate, and kevlar seats!

Engine bay looks stock.

I would start with maintanance first.

Do you know when oil was changed? What coolant they have on it? coolant seals tend to adapt to the coolant first put on the car, so have a look.

I would personally do this:

oilchange.(i am nazi at this, i change at 2000 miles, cause the stock OMP sucks up oil from the crank case and injects in the combustion chamber to keep side seals lubricated. Best thing is to make a little reservoir in engine bay for clean oil, and have the OMP suck 2stroke lowcarbonisation oil from there instead)
Inspect/change air filter
inspect plugs for condition of engine(take a picture, color says much), and then change em
change fuel filters
check for corrotion on plug-wires.
Borrow a wideband, take car for a drive and log AF rates to get a picture of engine combustion.

Stock exhaust on it? Are you bound by emissions testing?

Thanks man, its a fresh import from japan.
Its been fully serviced, changed to mph. engine checked compression checked running.
Front rotor: 7.1 / 7.2 / 7.1 @250RPM
Rear rotor. 7.2 / 7.1 / 7.0 @250RPM

as its just imported id suspect the company done all that as it comes with 12 months warranty aswell anything goes its replaced no charge! :)

its a upgraded stainless steal exhaust.

oyvindjs

i would give em a call just to have the data on what they have used for liquids, and to make sure they have started a maintanance intervall for you :)

i guess its a stainless catback? Jap car doesnt have precat like mine.
I would start simple.
Boostcontroller/gauge to monitor and maintain a 10-8-10 boost pattern
Check ALL the silicone hoses under the UIM(upper intake manifold) to see if they are the old OEM ones. This is referred to as the rats nest. Its a solenoid/hose mix from hell. Once these hoses start to crack, twins might act up. If they are old as hell, i would replace em all, one by one. Careful when loosening em from the solenoid plastic nipples, they tend to brake off. Use a razor blade to cut along the hose over the nipple to geeeently pry em off.

Then, i would do a stock mount aftermarket IC from a known brand and some decent intake filters with airfeed from the front. Like for ex the M2 intake, its awesome!

oyvindjs

Ah, and together with the boost gauge, oil temp, oil pressure, water temp.

And i would change the Air temp sensor in the UIM to a fast reacting unit. I can point you to one if you want to change it, its like... 30 odd dollars.

Superb man you\'ve gave me a tone of work to do already hehe!
looking forward to starting the project! What do you think of those compressions they look ok for a rx7?

Think your my guru bud! :-)

oyvindjs

Hehe, guru? Nah, there are ppl out there that are rotary gods. I only know alittle ;)

Compressions are good! even 100+ psi all round, looks like a good strong engine!
Compressions down in mid to low 90s is a danger sign. 80s, open engine before it barfs on ya and cost you alot more! :)

r0sc0

Good stuff, I\'m thankful for all the information uve gave me do far mate!
Keen to get into it! My old man used to run a garage when rotary engines first came out so he will be able yo help.me out alot providing they haven\'t changed much.
