Hi all,

I have been installing a load of stereo kit, and had my interior in bits.

When Geff @ re:worx installed my PowerFC it appears that he put it in \'floating\' behind the plastic panel, with no form of attachment. The old ECU appears to have brackets on it.

When I started the car up yesterday with the ECU not tucked in, the rev counter stopped working, and after 5 minutes the car stalled. I tucked it back in, and the car started fine and rev counter started working again. I assume therefore it\'s some kind of grounding problem ???

There are two round metal loops sticking out of the wiring harness in that location, which I guess are meant to be some form of ground.

So

a) Does the PFC need to be grounded ?
b) Do the brackets of the original ECU need to be transferred to the PFC ?

Nice one !

I was posting about this yesterday.

The power fc doesn\'t sit in the bracket the stock ECU does. Basically they want you to attach it with a bit of velcro.

I found my grounding wire (what my fingers pointing at) tucked in with the wireing that goes into the back. It screwed into the harness of the stock ECU. What I\'m gonna do is take the bracket out, undo the stock ecu, put the bracket back in place and put the power fc inside the original bracket witht he velcro, therefore I should be able to ground it in the same place..

Here\'s what the ground wire looks like on the stock ecu setup

hope this helps!

Is it actually possible to ground the PFC - isn\'t the case plastic?

Just finishing off my own install, but would like to earth it if possible - can anyone help? :)

Ta, Paul.

I installed my Power FC last week.  I have a grounding wire connected to the bottom ECU bracket.  I unscrewed the standard ECU from the bracket and then fixed the Power FC into the bracket with the velcro.  It should still be grounded as the grounding wire is connected to the bottom mounting bracket.  The Power FC will fit in the standard bracket, you just have to loosen it a bit and jig it around to get it in there.

Sure, i did the same in the end. I think i was getting confused thinking that the ground was to insulate against static build up on the case (stock ecu is metal). But really i think the grounding wire comes from the ECU harness, so attaching that back to where it originally came from (the mounting bracket), should be fine!

Cheers, Paul.
