We should sticky this thread to help people learn about offsets, because frankly I don\'t understand them either, if we have 1 thread for people\'s questions on offsets it will keep our lovely FC club tidy.

On that note, where do I stand with wheels that are et0?

dthebuk

the M is where the wheel bolts to the hub, the offset is the distance between the hub and the centre line of the wheel. Therefore with et 0 the hubface of the wheel sits on the centreline

generally when it comes to wheels, your best bet is to just crack out a ruler

Things that you need to take into account when chosing wheel / tyre combinations:

  • For front wheels that you don\'t lose steering lock - obviously the \'thicker\' the wheel is the less it can travel before hitting the arch liner, this problem is often made worse with a larger wheel/tyre diameter as the arches aren\'t square.
  • The tyres can move up and down in accordance with the available spring/shock movement - you don\'t want to bottom out and have the wheel hit the top of the arch
  • Tyres can camber in and out during large suspension travels - make sure the inner face of the wheel / tyre does not scrape against the suspension components or spring
  • Brake caliper clearance - depending on the offset you go for, and the pattern of the spokes on the wheel, you may have very little clearance to the caliper - obviously as long as there is some (1-2mm) the wheel will always clear the caliper - it\'s not going to move in relation to the caliper - unless you\'re bearing falls apart and then you\'ve other things to worry about :Giggle

I would also look at R32 GTR rims, the image link doesn\'t work where I saw them on RX7club anymore, I think I posted it up in good looking FC thread though, they seem to be spot on for offsets etc and what I would have got if I haddn\'t been offered my Efini rims.

B.Martin

I second the r32 rims looking good, if you google it you can find some pics. I\'d have them too but I want some dish on mine so have turned my attention elsewhere.

Thanks mate, the R32 rims do look really good, I chose the FD rims as they are an inch wider than FC rims, and are the same rolling circumference, plus there are plenty of grip for some high power drag FDs :)

nic3s

R33 gtr rims also look like they were made to fit an FC.

yup  probs my favourites but so expensive.... so much to buy for the car so little money :(   or those wud be my first choice

rising son

right found these..
front 8j, et32, 235 tyre
rear 9j, et38, 255 tyre
will these fit without any spacers etc... and will they look good/fill arches?

nic3s

You can pick up 33gtr rims for £300, they\'re cheap!

dthebuk

they should fit fine. They\'ll sit slightly inside the arch

nic3s realy? , only found 1 set close to 500 quid without rubber... where you lookin?
dthebuk... nice 1... so the rears wont be buried? and shouldent have any clearence issues front or rear with suspension etc?

dthebuk

should be fine. I ran 8 and 9 J advans on mine which were similar offset to those that you have mentioned, i think they were slightly lower. Dont have a pic  of the fronts, but rears used to look like this.
