So, first off anyone bought this yet?

I did this weekend but may have issues with my graphics card, any techy ppl out there.

Within the last month I\'ve bought a new pc from Dell, rang them up to discuss what I wanted the machine to do and specifically said that I didn\'t want a graphics card that would be out of date in six months.

They spec\'d a system and I bought it. [no nothing about pc spec, that\'s why I rang them, for advice]

The graphics card, AMD Radeon HD 6450, is struggling, even on the games lowest settings.

Looked up this card - doesn\'t seem very good, anyone know?

Some sites refer to it as \'entry level\'

Anyway emailed Dell to see what they have to say.

I suspect the card isn\'t really good enough, that right?

Looks an top game, hope I get the opportunity to play it without the lag.

You considered buying a console mate? You\'d not have to worry about anything like this again. I can\'t offer any help with your actualy question mind, just my thought :)

I reckon Lacey will be along shortly to give advice!

this is what i would say, however to reap the benefits of computer game at its full potential you must play it on a PC

Depends on your budget to what card you would want to buy in order to upgrade your PC to be able to run Battlefield 3, but I strongly recommend you follow the link M1tch posted here, http://bf3blog.com/battlefield-3-system-requirements/

Or just read this. This is the MINIMUM requirements for Battlefield 3, if you do not meet these, you will have a lot of trouble running the game on it\'s lowest settings.
  • OS: Windows Vista or Windows 7
  • Processor: Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz or Althon X2 2.7 GHz
  • RAM: 2GB
  • Graphic card: DirectX 10 or 11 compatible Nvidia or AMD ATI card, ATI Radeon 3870 or higher, Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT or higher.
  • Graphics card memory: 512 MB
  • Sound card: DirectX compatible sound card
  • Hard drive: 15 GB for disc version or 10 GB for digital version
According to the minimum specs you have a competent graphics card that \'should\' run the game on low spec, but how much RAM do you have in comparison to the required specs? Is it DDR2 or DDR3? What processor do you have? According to the minimum specs your graphics card should be more than competent, so it\'s likely that it\'s the rest of your system letting down your gameplay.

What\'s your processor? Dual core or quad core? Do you know which one it is?

What RAM do you have? And is it DDR2 or DDR3?

Your graphic card should be plenty capable of running Battlefield 3 judging by the required specs, so it\'s more than likely another component that you may need to look at upgrading.

Or, as Ben said, buy a suXbox and you won\'t have to worry about upgrading hardware etc to be able to play games, but honestly, for a first-person shooter, keyboard/mouse is far superior to an xbox controller, more precise etc, I hate shooter games on console, that\'s what I have a PC for, but having a PC capable of running the current market of games can be somewhat costly. I spent about £550 odd on my last set of upgrades, which was a new quad-core, new graphics card, new motherboard and new ram, and a new monitor and 3D glasses.

It all depends on what you want to spend, and what you want to get out of it.

Okay a follow up.

Radeon cards aren\'t my forté and I don\'t know much about them, I\'m an Nvidia girl, but other half is a Radeon aficionado and says minimum to run BF3 if you want to stay on a Radeon card you\'d want at least a 6790 (about £100) and that\'s to run it on low spec. A 6850 which would run it easier is about £120.

If you want to go with Nvidia (which is my personal choice) my card, the GTX460 is about the same price and will run BF3 quite easily, or the GTX480 would run it even better, but as you may guess is more expensive.

So you may want to look at upgrading your graphics card after all. Sorry for the wrong impression in the previous post, turns out I know less about Radeon\'s than I thought, but then I havn\'t used one since the early 2000\'s.....

Either way, knowing your RAM and CPU would also be a bonus to solving the issue of why it won\'t run :)

Just read all of what Lacey put there and understood nothing. Might as well be in Latin.

One of the graphics card mentioned though I run in my laptop ;)

I bet you look great Lacey sat there in your 3D glasses playing computer games. Lol

Thanks for the info.

My main point is that this pc is brand new and when Dell spec\'d it I made a point of pc gaming.

I\'m thinking they put together a system \'not fit for the purpose\'

I don\'t want to run on low settings, I asked for a competent graphics card.

I\'ll let you know what they say to my email.

always played games on pc, I always feel that on a console the player stands still and the background moves.

Also use a pc for work, don\'t want to buy another piece of kit just for occasional gaming

Waited a long time to afford a decent spec pc and I\'m disappointed to say the least.

Give me a write-up of the full spec of your PC and how much you paid for it and I\'ll let you know what you\'ve \'actually\' bought in comparison to what it was sold to you as, also let me know whether it\'s still in warranty, how long ago you bought it, and whether it\'s still within the X days returns policy.

I think a word with the shop that sold you it John and if you dont get anywhere then just mention "not fit for purpose"  and "consumer protection" should do the trick.

Sorry to hear of your troubles John. I don\'t know much about PC\'s but it seems like yours was underspeced for what you need.
Not that it\'ll make you feel any better but mine works fine on my PS3 :)
