I don\'t believe 8 rotor engine will be installed in a coup or saloon designed Vehicle. You would need bigggggg engine bay!!!

Seeing is believing..

I am not convinced that you would ever see this happening in a real world. Come on, it can never be a cost effective exercise.

My two pence :-)

The Veyron was designed and built by the Volswagen Audi group, one of the biggest and certainly one of the most stable car manufacturers in the world. Even then selling it at a million quid made them a loss on every single unit sold. Only someone like VAG could afford to do this and not blow themselves right out of the water in the process.

There is no way this pipe dream will ever be made by some random blokes in a shed, and if it does ever get a prototype running it\'ll be an utter basket case of a lash-up. Never happen, never never never.

As Sayed pointed out, the practicality is ridiculous, you\'d need a bus to fit the engine architecture in. The 787B was a naturally aspirated four-rotor detuned to ~900bhp, who honestly thinks they could use even that with any amount of sense in a road car? Now double that and add quad turbo :3Confused? Unless they plan to detune it to the point it\'s an utter travesty. Or maybe rev limit it to like 2000rpm? Please, just wake up and smell the coffee.

Syed would you consider your 20B conversion cost effective? Lol.

I would like to see the 4rotorTT version in a car as I would think it would be possible, you just need to cool it properly.

And let\'s be honest, if anybody would succeed in building a car like this, my money sure as hell would be on the Germans.

How long would an 8 rotor be? IF they used 13B housings?

8 x 80mm for the rotor housings
7 x ##mm for centre plates
1 x ##mm end plate
1 x ##mm front plate

I reckon it wouldn\'t be much longer than a skyline or supra engine?

Quote from: trotter;785509aren\'t those mated on a single crank though? How would you get two E-shafts and flywheels to turn one gear box? Or am I being slightly thick here?

It turns out they don\'t work the way I thought they would they are single common crank and you wouldn\'t be able to do it with a rotary. So it looks like inline 8 rotor, (repeat after me) it\'ll never work..... the W engines are like the VR6 engines in the Golf with a 15 degrees staggered V6 and two of those mated to a common crank at 90 degrees. no wonder they\'re so small (relatively speaking). :Giggle
Lil-Steve is.... loving it when a plan comes together.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo :flamed:flamed

But its a modified engine and personal choice, whereas, the 8 rotor will be up and for sale to the general public. I just cant understand that to sort one rotor out from 8 rotors, I would have to strip the "WHOLE" engine :Nono!

Imagine you have a blown tip on a one rotor and you would have to strip everything to get to it, and to top it up, Once the engine is open, Water and Oil seals can not be used again, Oil in the sump can not be used and so many parts can not be used again etc etc etc..

it will be a money pit.... lolll

If that\'s what they\'re selling it looks like a nasty kit car lash up.

I wonder if they\'re running two 4 rotors in parallel with the shafts driving a central gear which drives the transmission.  I think their claimed performance figures are far fetched to say the least.  Utterly impractical for a road car too.  Much more than 300 bhp in a car of 1500kg in the UK and your performance in a straight line is such that you\'ll never really exploit it on the road for fear of getting into license loosing territory alarmingly quickly.  On track, without as-yet undeveloped tyre technology you\'ll be coasting around corners and deploying the power sparingly as you overheat your brakes and tyres.  The car might survive on a drag strip but for drag racing you can get that sort of horsepower from far more simple engines.  If one runs it\'ll be a white elephant, a self-licking lollipop.

Apparently putting details of your car spec in your signature means the nice folks on exile-rotorsport think you\'re a fool.  I can think of no higher compliment!

With the initial run of only 5 cars it was never intended to make money. The VAG boss (Ferdinand Piech?) was quoted at the time as saying that it was done solely as a technical exercise "to see if it could be done" (that\'s where Jezza got his TG quote from).

However, with the fact they\'ve now sold close to 100 (IIRC) there\'s a good chance that it will be getting close to break-even.

And of course, this \'bottom line price\' doesn\'t include the net worth of the R&D that was done that can be used on future projects.

You won\'t need more than a quad rotor for crazy power and torque, anything more then you can\'t really get the power down to the road.

\'If a car like this was ever to make it to the street then i\'m sure it would have a veyron similar price tag and with that i dont think the people that can afford to buy one would worry to much about a few water seal kits and apex seals \'when\' it needs rebuilding. What they might get frustrated about is the fact it would never make it more than 1 journey before it would need said rebuild, new tyres (or landspeed car metal discs) and another gearbox :p

I think you need to give this project a little bit of slack.....this has been tested :)

Nik da Greek

Yeah, they tested anti-tank mine-carrying dogs in WWII, Jon. Doesn\'t mean it was either workable or a good idea in the first place :Giggle

AtomicRex

You really dislike dogs dont you!

Unlike the example though......this has made numerous runs, and achieved the 0-60 in less than a second.   Your example would have pretty much done one run and then been toast!
