Quote from: Will66;779768Drugs smugglers used to be the focus of what I did for a while.  The sad thing was that they were just poor fisherman trying to earn a living in a part of the world were the money comes from the drugs trade.  I used to feel bad when we shot away their engines and detained them and confiscated their cargo because they weren\'t the ones we should be targeting.  We needed to chase the heads of the cartels who live in positions of inscrutable power getting people that they\'ve driven into the drug running business to take the risks on their behalf for meagre wages.

Without in depth knowledge but seen many a documentary i can agree, you often feel sorry for the "mule" whose only chance at feeding his family comes from taking a risk.

Legalise the lot of it imho, tax it, put duty on it and make sure its pure! Just how many criminals would you literally shut down over night :)

Did anyone see the programme they had on about drugs in scotland and the efforts to seize stem the flow, quite incredible, after ludicrous amounts of police time etc they estimate they only stop about 1% of the amount of drugs coming into scotland!

I agree about legalising! Think how much revenue it wud generate for uk as hole and save money on drug operations
Etc... That would sort out our countries issues! Most of our illegal drugs is because the yanks did
And uk followed suit I.e cocaine and lsd ( which us military forces invented! Lol)

Unfortunately drugs aren\'t the only addiction...

It\'s fair to say some of the others are usually less self destructive - but not always.

Adrenalin junkies - we all get the buzz from doing something a little scary or on the edge - but some people want to step right over that edge an keep on going !

Gaming junkies - The number of palid spotty teenagers to mid twenties that lock themselves away in their bedrooms and dissapear into their virtual worlds - in some cases forgetting to wash / eat / see the real daylight - that can\'t be good long term.  It seems to affect some of us 40 somethings too - quite a few of my colleagues spend several hours a week glued to gaming consoles.

Sex junkes - ;)

Aspiration junkies - this isn\'t that well understood in my opinion - but these tend to be merciless people who will even sacrifice a family life and family to reach higher and higher goals in life and they are not afraid to step on the shoulders of others to get there.  I\'ve nothing against achievements - don\'t get me wrong - I\'m talking about the very few people who will sacrifice their soles to get to the top.  I\'ve met many high flyers - and some have a great work / life balance, and I\'ve also met those I wish I hadn\'t - when their world collapses they often head for one of the above addictions.

And perhaps two of the worst.

Smoking, which is now seen as socially unacceptable (i am a smoker) and imho perhaps one of the worst, alcohol, social acceptable and massively destructive!
