There is a check and cut valve for the fuel tank, located in front of the fuel tank.

This thing maintains the pressure in the tank.

This said, i can tell you that pressure released by this valve will be stored in that canister to directed and burn inside the engine later on.

This is what i\'ve been told, correct me if i\'m wrong.

Another thing, would this cause the car to smoke like hell after taking it for a spin if it wasnt hooked up? Car smokes like hell after taking it for a spin. Think I posted something about it b4 but dont know what it is. Its only when I drive it hard.

Prof

My undestanding of it was:

The FC has a out and return fuel system, the FPR maintains the pressure in the line where the injectors are, but the unused fuel goes back to the tank.  This returning fuel can pick up some heat, so there could be pressure building up in the tank from the vapours arising.  There is an additional line from the tank that draws these fumes via the charcoal canister and eventually back into the intake to be burnt off harmlessly

this also answers a few questions i had, thanks guys :)

Cheers Prof. I may hook it up. Reason why I dont have it hooked up is cause the n/a doesnt have one. Just the two fuel lines. When I replaced the old lines I put a extra one in for it but forgot to connect it up.Have not really drove the car but hope this could be the reason why its throwing so much smoke. Probably not the reason do. :3Confused

What colour is the smoke?

sidewaysted

Blue I think so its oil burning. Just wondering did anyone else experience this?

B.Martin

Wait for proof, he will probably know why it might be burning oil and what you need to check. Prof is like the FC guru man :god

If the charcoal canister plumbing is off, are any of the other lines off as well ?

The outlet from the charcoal canister joins in a \'T\' with the outlet on the top of the oil neck - this is a recirc into the intake for positive crank pressure stuff - oil vapours and what not.

There are 2 outlets on the oil neck - the upper one combines with the fuel vapours to go back into the intake via a 1 way valve.  The lower one goes through the purge control valve into the throttle body when certain rev / MAP pressure is hit - this can get quite grubby and oily

As long as one of these is able to vent back through the engine it should be fine.

As has been said, blue smoke is oil - it could be caused by any of these:

Turbo oil seal
Oil control rings
Over oiling from oil injectors

A little bit of oil smoke on startup or first couple of minutes is normal, and even a bit after booting it hard and then letting off - but if you\'ve been out for a run and then some time after it\'s buring oil on tickover - then it suggests a problem.

Oil control rings is normally down to engine build - so only a rebuild will fix that, but you can the other ones out :

Check the oil drain from the turbo - it should be able to flow \'down hill\' all the way into the engine front cover - if someones put some aftermarket host / pipework in there, make sure it\'s angled down all the way - as this can cause oil to pool in the bottom of the CHRA and cause smoke.

The injectors - check that the vac pipes are on all of these - if your stock oiling system is still intact, then there is a 1 to 4 way vac spider coming out of the back of the throttle body - each of the 4 vac lines from the spider go to an oil injector at the top, the oil is fed in the side via a banjo fitting.   If the vac lines are ok, you could unscrew these 1 at a time, clean them up and then check the one way valve is still working ok in them

Cheers Prof you are the true Fc guru.

Plumbed in the charcoal canister today and took it for a almighty tear down the road and got back and no smoke. Going to bring it for another few spins tomorrow to be sure.
