I could really do with spending some money on the brake set up.
but how good are the standard 4 pot brakes.

will I see exceptional stopping times buy buying new drilled and grooved discs
with red stuff pads and upgrade the hoses

or

is it a case of throwing a lot of money at a big brake kit ????

The OEM brakes are good, they are 4 pot for a start, try with upgraded disks and pads to start with and feel the difference :) wouldn\'t cost as much as getting a full big brake kit!

What are you using the car for though?

I have a single turbo setup and would like to start to do track days.
so thought the extra power would warrant extra brakes.

but if the general consensus is that the standard 4 pots are up to the job
and all i need is fresh discs and pads. then that is more money to throw at the tyres.

It may be worth rebuilding or getting them rebuilt an refurbished as this could give them a little more stopping power if all the seals are good and the pistons are working smoothly,

I will be doing mine in the future and will try and post some before and after results of it it helps or not

Don\'t get RedStuffs, they\'re junk!

Stock brakes are pretty good tbh - decent pads and some decent discs (You don\'t need grooved, especially don\'t need drilled! will give a great increase in consistency. If you are happy with the power then look at pads to keep them going, if not then you will need to go larger.
I\'d look at refurbing the calipers yourself, (£50 in parts), new set of pads (I love DS2500\'s for fast road/light track) anda fluid flush and replace. If you fade that lot on the road then tbh you\'re driving like a ...... and need to moderate your driving. If you do more track of course, then it\'s a different matter. Only use redstuffs if you love setting fire to money. Actually, fit a wadge of tenners to your calipers, they\'d probably be mroe effective.

Try carbone Lorraine pads they are very very good better than ds2500s ( in my opinion) the only good thing about ebc is there marketing there pads are crap ,the importers number is 07974153967 is name is Paul ,he does good brake fluid as well ,

if your planning on doing track days and having a single turbo then i would spend the extra for upgraded brakes.

my single has 6 pot ap racing brakes and the abs removed, the feel is amazing and truly great on a track, i found standard ones on a track can be problematic, with heat and fade.

this may just be myself and many others may have the standard brakes and be happy with them..

but you have to remember if you going to be running more power, makes sense to have the ability to stop better :)

I personally prefer standard breaks, but again it depends on the use of the car. As mentioned above, with a little modifications, standard breaks can produce satisfying results. I did have AP racing BB on my car and they worked great, but tbh, I just didn\'t like them (its me).

I think, if you pose this question on RX7 Club, you would get tones of information.

Very true. I do like the standard ones and they work well. But for me if your going north of 400 I think u should look at atleats getting better pads and discs.

SiH

As said, standard brakes are fine for fast road and the occasional brief venture onto track, but they do start fading afte a while.
I\'d be interested to know if RZ\'s fare any better?

End of the day if you can lock up a wheel, then you have the power, it\'s the consistency and modulation you\'re fighting for.

I have seen a kit for the fd which consists of grooved disc\'s pads and hoses for all four corners for less than £400 and I have used the company before a for brakes on my old gt4 and they were great. Sell there kits on ebay also.

gonzodave

I will be buying kit soon hopefully as i think the stock brakes are shockingly bad, when I do i will post the results may be couple of months.

You WILL be disappointed.

Std brakes are good so I suspect you need to clean up your pistons, replace your cheap pads and your fluid.

Grooved discs add very little IME. IF they improve braking then it\'s by no more than a few feet.

Totally agree, standard brakes are excellent - if you find them \'shockingly bad\' with only 250bhp you\'re either used to 8-pot big brakes and superwide tyres on shopping trollies and have unrealistic expectations of a road car, or you\'ve got a problem with your system (hopefully just rubbish pads and not your servo / calipers...)
