Hey guys

Just want your guys opinions on this.

Since replacing the stock ast, with a re amemiya ast my under bonnet temps are higher according to the power fc, kinda makes sense considering metal conducts more heat.....but what do you guys think? Is it worth keeping it there for reliability? Before my air temp was averaging between 28c - 34c now they hitting between 38c - 49c. Big difference, I know the weather don\'t help, but curious as to what your opinions are.

Thanks.

Oh and worth saying I don\'t wana eliminate it, I believe things are put there for reasons. :D

thats a high jump in temperature, considering the ast is for water i cant work out why you air temp has gone up. lol.

has the water temp increased too? if so the system may not be working right, does the new ast loop back into the rad?

memski

Higher ambient temps mate, don\'t think the ast is responsible for the jump. Look at heatshielding manifolds, cool air feeds, ducting, wrapping ic pipes, venting etc.

PDale

How far apart did you compare the two temperature ranges? You have to make sure you\'re comparing apples with apples as the humidity recently has been high. Air temps will be suffering at the moment.

edit - memski beat me to it!

Thanks for feedback guys, connections are exactly the sane as they were on the stock one grant. Pipe in bottom coming from coolant fill, small pipe from the top of ast to wherever that goes lol, and the side pipe that is just blocked off. I\'ve compared temps on same run, late at night around midnightish while air is cooler.....water temp has stayed same low 80s (think I got air n water temps right way round.....just thought the metal ast is giving off more heat hence higher temps but didn\'t think it wud affect it this much.

Hi guys, Just wanted to know regarding Air Temp....how do we know that certain degrees of air temp is safe and above certain degrees of air temp isn\'t?

Looking for the safe bars on the air temp really :)

Agree with you Mir, its just that it is affecting performance greatly compared to before the change of the AST.....maybe its just coincedence as air temps have been warmer, even in middle of the night.....but the metal AST gets much hotter than the plastic one did.....dont think itll do the coolant any favours too :(

Metal is a good heat conductor so more heat from the coolant is being conducted from it out into the air surrounding it.  The coolant is probably a little bit cooler than with a plastic ast as plastic is a better insulator.

Apparently putting details of your car spec in your signature means the nice folks on exile-rotorsport think you\'re a fool.  I can think of no higher compliment!

are you still on a stock IC? it\'s possible that the new AST is blocking air from the rear of the IC, making it less efficient.

such a long shot though... so many variables involved in intake temps and i can\'t believe replacing the AST would jump them up by 10 degrees.

Mate its cause its been hot weather recently I have the same ast and it caused no issues

Hey guys

Sorry for not replying sooner to these posts, I went away on holiday. Right so after coming back i took the Rex out on cooler days and still running hotter.....I had a look under the hood and there was a crack on the apexi air filter housing, sealed this up and hey, temps back to normal ^_^

Thanks for all the input guys, really appreciate the help.

Now that is extremely weird. High water temps from inlet air. Hmmmm. Glad to hear it\'s sorted though.

When are your plans to slap the single on the car and take advantage of the huge ports in there?
