hey guys im a little unsure of power in these cars at the moment ? i keep reading different figures and am im teretsed if anyone can help ? the rx7 in uk has less power than the jap ones it seems by around 25 bhp but this is because it restricted by a extra cat ? also with a streetport on a standard rx7 would it make around 300 bhp as this is what the seller is claiming ? also 0 -60 times seem to confuse me at the mo as i am findin anything from beetween 4.8 - 6-3 which is quite a difference. i was under the impression it was close to 5.2 apx ?

i keep looking but finding differnt answers everywhere and though i would just ask you guys. hopefully i will be seeing you at the guildford meet in my own one :D

Mazda claimed 5.2 seconds to 60mph. UK cars do make less power than imports, think the pre-cat in the downpipe doesn\'t help and they have a load of emissions-based shlte to screw things up too, as well as presumably a softer map to cope with lower RON fuel. 255 was the claimed power figure for a stock Type R (though that happens to also be the upper limit of the gentleman\'s agreement between Jap manufacturers at the time. Skylines especially were often well above that off the shelf.)

Eminently possible to get to 300 bhp on of a streetport, but only safely with good supporting mods. If that\'s all they\'ve done, maybe best to shop around a bit more...

wrightyrx8

is this Guildford meet just for rx7\'s or all welcome ? as i have a rx8 !

thanks

RyanT

Thanks for the reply. What sort of supporting mods need to be done as I will find out ? and I don\'t know about the meet mate but I believe there was a link posted on this post.

I\'d say Guildford meet is come one come all. But then Im not the organiser of it. Its under the monthly meets section.

Supporting mods would be boost and fuel control (generally requiring an aftermarket programmable ECU). You\'d probably be OK on standard fueling system, though you\'d want it to be in good condition. The fuel filter is an utter arse to change, ask when it was last done and if he doesn\'t know then get it done ASAP. If it has exhaust and induction mods already then you definitely need to get it set up with a programmable ECU because the stock one really can\'t cope too well with that much deviation from stock. Turbo rotaries are very sensitive to spark plug condition (and also very hostile to spark plug longevity), can be £100 for a new set of plugs so worth checking they\'ve been changed recently (ever!). There are a zillion threads on this on here, mostly written by better minds than mine, the search button is your friend lol

As to Guildford, AFAIK, all are welcome! :Thumbs-up

Hey guys just a couple of questions.
Is a 1992 jap import a effini ?
Can you uprate a pre 1995 fd to match the power in the pater models ?
Are the silver fds less popular for any reason as i see less of them on forums?
And id the guildford meet a ongoing monthly thing ? As i wasnt able to make it this time.

Thats it hopefully selling my little del sol soon and can join you guys.:D

Dehs

Afaik, a \'92 import is always an efini.  The early models are only just under the later models, and shouldnt need much to get them up a bit.  Not sure about the silver question =S

ChrisDubbya

Biggest difference between the pre 96 and later models is the improvement to the turbo pack and plumbing which is more efficient and more powerful along with a 16 bit ECU which is probably better to. Think the doors were also lighter :0)

Within the FD world I don\'t think anyone considers any one model any inferior to another power wise because as soon as you start to modify the original hp figures go out of the window

Good luck with your purchasing and welcome :)

Hey guys what are people paying for a rebuild on there engine ? I\'m seeing prices on websites for 3000 + vat does that sound right ?

787b

hello thats right and can cost more all depends who you go to ,
fd are expensive to run and maintain but are nice cars,

just make sure who ever you go to that they honour there engine warranty and get that in writing .

i had a bad experience in the past with a well known builder , everything was going fine when i spent over £8000 on rebuild , after i done 950 miles had a slight oil leak
called him up he came to look and said he will sort it out in the end he said he will have to service it and do a oil change which will come to £200,:Nono!

from that moment i said just fix the problem considering i have not even reached 1000miles,  he just said it going to cost you either way OR GO FIX IT YOURSELF:WaveBye

dont get me wrong he builds good engines but mine had teething problems and if i didnt show money he wasnt interested.

SO BE WARNED DONT GET SUCKED INTO WHAT YOUR ENGINE BUILDER CAN DO TO YOUR CAR:Talking1 , ITS WHAT YOU WANT DOING ON YOUR CAR:yes

its a good job i know basic mechanics and i took his advice and did fix it myself :rollin,  it just turned out to be a leaky oil sender sensor which i changed for a new one and at the same time i did a oil change and fitted a oil catch tank.

sorry to go on my point is do your research on a good engine builder  also learn alot about your car  i spent around £9000 on rebuild and now i have had my car for a year and been on mrc fduk for the same time i could have got the parts much cheaper and spent half of the money:Hammer

That is about right, although it is generally a starting figure as until you get the engine apart you never know what parts will need replacing.

And as your rebuilding anyway you may as well get some porting done and before you know it you have spent more than the car is worth!

You could also just sell your broken engine and buy a working one that has less mileage on it, may cost you more in the long run but that is the gamble you take

whats all this talk of rebuilding the engine? Surely not already?

fil_auto

Ryan - that\'s about right for a standard rebuild, in fact that\'s what mine was from Hurley / Mick a few years ago. They can build engines without doubt, sadly it\'s their after-sales service / problem solving and fixing that leaves a lot to be desired! ;P

I am the victim of not the same scenario but similar scanario loll. I know one rotary engine builder who treated me completely unprofessionally-very unprofessional man. All he was interested in money :bandit. So research is very important...
