Hi guys! I Bought an RX7 yesterday, feels good to be part of your family here already lol.
Anywho i have a problem with the boost, it seems like when accelerating especially in the low end gears it seems to feel a bit restrictive and a bit jerky and the acceleration is quite a slow progression,  ive been told it may be the boost solenoid which may need replacing. I was wondering if this could be the case or could it be something else? Also if any one knows of where i can get this repaired thats local to the WS9 area of Birmingham, that would also be very helpful as this is my priority at the moment. Many thanks. Matt  :chat

has it got a cat? could be blocked thats what mine was. or even a leaky vacumm someone correct me if im wrong.

Hi Splinter, Im not too sure if it is the cat but i think its highly unlikely. She has had a rebuild 8,000 miles ago so should be no problems. When i go to 3500rpm or more she still flutters through the BOV so its not due to a leak of air either but then again i could be wrong? The boost guage seems to be fine no odd movements or shaking with the needle. Just feels a bit restricted really and a jerky acceleration, it gets there though if you ease the accelerator pedal down but not if you put your foot down at that point it starts to get the problem.

do you need new plugs??  I had the same problem and the plugs were fouled up - changed them and hey presto fixed!!  I assume you are boosting correctly as per the boost gauge??
Also as mentioned above check pipes for air leaks etc.

Congrats on buying the car mate, :-)

Did you know the car had this problem when you bought it?

Hi Mulv im not sure about the plugs but i will be taking her to WGT Auto next week for them to have a proper look at her. I dont know if i am boosting up as per the boost guage how do you know when?
Hi Ows thank you, i did know the car had this problem when i bought it but i was told other than the owner that it went into his garage and he noticed their maybe a fault with the boost solenoid maybe? I got the car for a good price and have money to fix her up back again so i dont mind about that it just would be nice for Rexy to get better soon lol :P

Mulv

do you make boost on the gauge? 10-11 psi give or take or have you lost the boost, tbh you will feel if you have lost boost as car will feel slow.  when you accelerate does it feel like you are being held back by an invisible force??

Mulv, i will look at the PSI when im next in her. it seems to be registering the boost fine like when i accelerate the needle jumps up and so forth, what you have just described sounds exactly like that but when im in the later gears like 3-4-5 shes as sweet as a nut just seems to be the earlier gears..

Mulv

Hmm, interesting.  Obvious each car is different and can\'t be 100% sure, but this sounds exactly the same as the prob I had in my last FD, it only happened higher in the rev range for me, but it was defo fouled plugs, they were black when they came out.  If they have not been changed in a while its worth giving it a go, it\'s not such a hard job to change them.  It could be something different though....

Ill have a look at my sparkplugs later and give them a good check , if they are black then i think i may have found the cure..if its not the case then it has to be a boost solenoid i cant see it being anything else as everything else feels fine and shes so smooth to drive in the higher gears

Went to WGT last weekend - advised could be HT leads and sparkplugs. - purchased parts so i installed them and the problem is cured yay!!!! Thanks to everyone who helped :)

Its always a good idea to keep on top of the ignition system, its the part of the system that is sometimes overlooked after going to all the expensive of getting the air and fuel into the engine! 20 year old HT leads aren\'t the best for performance!

Thread hijack :D

Mitch - what leads are you using on your FC?

But glad You got it sorted Matt :)

I am running some Magnecor blue leads, you can get some of the red sort from MRP:

I did notice a difference when I swapped them over, didn\'t think I would, but the car was more responsive with the different HT leads, I guess the HT leads are a perishable item.

Cheers, I\'ll move them to the top of the \'things to buy when I get the damn car\' list :)
