hey,

Ive spent all winter, working on my rex to get it ready for the summer,I brought it from wales drove her back and decided a few mods would be nice,I was very careful as I\'m aware of how fragile these engines are,my mate had his remapped yesterday at wgt he did me a favour and got me a basic map,I installed new apexi turned her over, she struggled at first but with a bit of super in her she came round to my thinking, she drove fine for a few hours i put her away, then started her up again at night,I noticed an extreme loss of power and she would go above 2k revs,I put her back in garage and waited tilll morning,I checked the oil to notice had a cottage cheese problem,
I spoke to my friend and he thinks its a rebuild as a seal might have gone, can anybody confrim this,if so anybody reccomed a good rebuilder

the real podge

Did you let the car learn the map, leave it running without anything switched on, then turn on heaters, then turn on rear window heater etc etc, allows the ecu to learn, think theres a full description in the handbook with the pfc?

Gunk on the dipstick is normal on a rotary, no need to panic normally!!

John RX7

I cant get it started it wont turn over,it goes to then just doesn\'t,the gunk wasent on the dipstick,on the oil filler car,no gunk on the dipstick

TiddlesRX7

Its quite normal (well as normal as can be with these) for them to have some Mayo in the oil filler neck. If its clear on the dip stick then hopefully your gonna be ok. As above did you do the self learn process correctly?
I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

Get your finger out, get it on the road and start driving it then!!! (B.Martin 25/2/12)

Before you worry too much put the stock ECU back on and see if it runs O/K

Hope this helps
All the best Clive

Not like the vac line to the boost sensor hasn\'t popped off ?

I got her turned over finally after persistance,I left her iddling 20-30mins,I switched the buttons on the dash board over, unfortunatly brought second hand didnt get a hand book with it,alot of fumes where coming from the exhaust, smokey,to a blue, then a bit of black, she also revved on her own and hunted, good to hear hopefully not a rebuild, and vac lines to boost sensor fine

Do you know what sort of map it has on it? if the ecu has been set up for some mental 500bhp monster then the fueling will be way over for what you need and the ignition etc would be all to .... to!! might be worth resetting the PFC to default map and then take it to a tuner to have it set up properly!

your car is overfuelling with the map you have on the Apexi, my advice like Clives put the stock Ecu back in, drive it to WGT put the Apexi back in and get them to remap the ECU

ok ok,well update after a while fumes fizzled out,she starts up alot better after i left her idling for 30mins so the ecu can learn, its just a basic map,no bhp gain just the no air pump and air con, decat etc so she doesnt detonate on me

no such thing as a basic map. you need to get a tuner to map it properly as soon as possible.

Speedworks

I think you best reset the Apexi PFC with the hand controller and do the learning procedure.

and check all the vac lines for cracks at the connections and in the bends.

dont run the car without a cat on it with a just a base apexi map as you will find it will run lean and you will break the engine.

for reference, on the basemap, with a cat, my engine was running at 11.3afr, took the cat off and it went to 12.5afr which is to lean for a rotary on pump fuel.

if you gonna run with no cat, either map it yourself or get someone to map it for you if you dont know what your doing

I got my mates dad round to take a look at it,he did some checks and took the spark plugs off to find they where covered in water petrol and oil,he told me water could possibly getting into the engine, took off the coolant hoses drain as much fluid as possible with apexi disconnected, turned over with spark plugs back in,she was fine, sooooo we came to assumption that the gaskets are knackered or i have a crack rotor housing, can you guys confirm

if there really is water in the rotor housing it sounds like a water seal failure, keep an eye on your metal water filler neck, fill it with water to the top, if it starts getting lower everyday then its rebuild time
