Where is the best place to get some stainless braided hose for the fuel lines and what should I get, as on the bay there is a choice of Teflon or nitril hose?? Also what size... 6 or 8mm??

Cheers

I used a mix of Torques and Earls (pricier), but I will say Earls line is a better quality - had some cheaper braided off ebay and it was prone to splitting inside the braid.

Best not to economize on fuel lines ;)

-6 hose, don\'t need teflon for fuel.

I bought all my bits from Summit Racing in the US.

sweet, and what sort of length would I need??

Depends on what you are plumbing (primary, secondary?), whether you go serial or parallel, where you mount your FPR, whether you are going firewall forward or back to the fuel tank, whether you will be installing a swirl pot etc. etc. etc.

I ordered 3m I think, and have some left after doing firewall forward primary, secondary in parallel and with the FPR mounted on the firewall near the ABS.  Its the hose fittings that are the killer cost if you go the AN route, not the lines!

Are these for running inside the car?

Standard braided hose is porous...and as such will give off fuel vapour!  This is dangerous!!

If you need hose and fittings....drop me a line with the items you need, I can get some pretty good prices on Goodridge items.

Jono FD3

just replacing the main fuel lines from the tank forward, and pipes will be run outside the car in the stock position!

Aubec

Atomic - the nitrile hose does let the smell of fuel through after a while, so I agree I sure wouldn\'t use in the ....pit, but pretty sure it can\'t be dangerous!

The hose is still fuel-rated which it would not be if it leaked ignitable fumes surely?  If so, then how can it be legal to sell as fuel hose?

Other than the braid, surely it\'s no different from the hose we\'d use as stock fuel lines in the engine bay?

Depending on the scrutineer of the day, any standard 200 series hose can fail a car.  It is designed for under the car or in the engine bay.  Goodridge now do a hose that is perfectly sealed.  Standard hose is a little like Gore-Tex it obviously wont let the water molecules in but the smaller moisture it will let through.

You can always smell when someone has a swirl pot in the pot....the fuel vapour is very strong!  As for dangerous....fuel vapour left in the sun on a summers day...Petrol tanks have been known to explode....so although I imagine that you would have had to really annoy lady luck...its worth while taking precautions with!

Anyway.... what length do I need to replace the lines from the tank to the fuel rail?

AtomicRex

Sorry for the digress

Why do you want to spend the monies fitting braided lines the length of the car?  Why not do it in Copper?  Or get some steel hard lines?  I dont personally recommend using braided line over the length of the car as it will have a slight pressure loss.

It totally depends dude - where is the FPR mounted?
IIRC I used about 2m or so for each run, so 4m. I\'d err on the side of caution and get 6 so you have 1m spare for each run though. Mine were to and froma  swirl pot where the carbon canister is so not straight to the tank, so it all got a bit confused lengthwise.

I use a mixture of JEGS and Torques hose and fittings, both seem good.
If I could have, I would ahve run solid lines tbh.

mmmm Might look at stainless pipe then, and use the braided where the stock rubber ones are!

AtomicRex

If you are interested in Aluminium hard pipes I can supply these at £2.50 per metre! inc VAT  The fittings arent that expensive either.  You would need to a minimum of 4 metres though.

Aubec

Or check with your dealer what the stock pipes cost to replace (assuming they are corroded and you are not looking to use wider pipes?).  Hard lines are the way to go.

I got a very pleasant surprise when I was replacing clutch hard lines - cost me like £8 or something for each OEM line- fuel lines are just a bit longer and a bit wider, so you might get a pleasant surprise.
