As most of you know I\'ve been putting lots of time into thinking what I should do with the brakes on my FB. Certainly I\'ve decided to upgrade front front brakes to either FC brake or something more special.

With the rear brakes the general consensus seems to be that good pads and discs are perfectly adequate, especially with correct re-biasing.

Basically I\'m writing this topic to ask if I can use the superior s3 pads, callipers and disks on the rear of my s2? I know I\'d need to re-drill the disks, but are there any differences on the end of the axel?

Even if I stick with s2 rear brakes I\'ll need a calliper refurb and new disks and pads, so if its just the re-drilled disks that are needed to go s3 I might as well!

Wouldn\'t it be easier to just get a Series 3 complete axle you could pick one up for bobbins.

Steve-A

Probably, but I\'ve spent all that time making my s2 axel nice and got my wheel adapters to fit the 4x110 pattern :P

The disk re-drilling would be easy and free for me.

Fair do\'s, will in theory if you cross reference the exploded diagrams of the different axles on foxed.ca or on Ian\'s page then you should get an idea of how much different they are.

Cheers Tim, I\'ll do that one rainy night!

I actually thought the same as Tim on this one Steve.  If you did choose to buy an S3 you could always sell on the S2 axle and perhaps even your adaptors too but on the other hand, I do appreciate the work that has gone into getting where you are today so it is a tough decision and very much your shout.

I was just kinda thinking that I need to renew all the s2 brake kit at the back anyway, so if the s3 kit bolts right up, with re-drilled rotors, then thats a pretty easy way to get larger rotors. If I\'d need to modify the axel then its not worth it, and like you guys I\'d just buy an s3 axel.

have a look at re-speed sure they do some conversions, i have a FC front and rear brake set up on mine and it was fairly easy to do

Steve-A

I\'ve heard some not so great things about the FC conversion kits re-speed do. Speaking to various people I\'ve come to the conclusion that stock rear brakes and upgraded fronts, with correct biasing, will be plenty.

I just thought I have the facilities to re-drill the rotors for free, and either way i need to get new disks, pads and calliper refurb so if I could go up to s3 brakes easily it\'s a good idea.

Tim investigated when he went to RX motors today for me, and the s3 brakes are not a bolt on to the s2 axel.

So back to the drawing board once more!

While I\'ve got this topic running....

On the s3 are the brake rotors integral to the hub like on an s2 or are they separate like on the FC/FD/mx5/every other car I\'ve seen the brake rotors of?

I\'m shortly about to start working on refurbing the front suspension, and don\'t wanna make the mistake I made with the rear end and wish I\'d swapped out for s3 parts before I\'d put the hours in!

Steve-A

Thankyou. :)

I think I\'ll still keep my ear to the ground for some s3 struts and 4 stud FC hubs.

you need a US spec efi FC for the 4 stud hubs, got mine from rx7club as most are converting to the 5 stud

Steve-A

Yeah I\'d already had the heads up on finding the 4 stud FC hubs from the US. :)

Thanks again.
