so i have decided on fitting my decat to my FD, this will require a remap im told, while im at it i would like to up the boost during the remap of the decat to 0.7 bar on my stock twins, currently boosting at 0.6 bar on my apexi management, will i need to uprate the intercooler to a V or front mount to deal with the 0.1 bar in raised boost pressure?

thanks guys

No mate,

Running 0.8/0.9 is still feasable on the standard intercooler as long as the ducting is in place and its mapped correctly.

Mine was mapped to 0.8 on the stock ic and the intake temps were fine and injector duty was around 85-88%.

The factory ducting is fine but must be sealed up properly and be in good condition if your standard ic is just stuck in the engine bay like so many you see nowadays then the intake temps will shoot up the minute you give it some and will take forever to cool again.

thanks for the response mate, my bay currently looks like this.. is the ducting still in place? i heard that on stock twins 0.8/0.9 bar the turbos start spewing oil lol, what kind of power did u make at 0.8 bar mate?

there will be an open hole underneath the air filter which is always worth plugging. Its about 3" by 4" and allows valuble cold air to be replaced by hot bay air.

I got 306bhp @ 0.8bar and after i got a replacement arc smic i increased it further to 326bhp @ 0.9bar.

Some engines get more some less but genealy 1bar is regarded as the limit only because of the amount of generated heat.

tuners in other countries run the stock twins well over 1bar with WI but i cant imagine they last very long

Just thought I had best mention in case it came across wrongly but every time boost is increased its been done by a ttuner while being mapped.

No stock twins last on WI or not, 1 bar is the practical limit.

REAL engine power is around 350bhp to 360bhp maximum (whatever this is in guessomatic rolling road X multipliers lol) in trap speeds you can get around 118mph in a maximum set up on true road tires and full weight.

All Twins based systems are a time bomb of very anrrow power ranges and are very bad on the engine, best thing you can do is bin them :Thumbsup! and go single turbo :spank

i know exactly what you mean mate, but i have just bought the car and would love to enjoy it for this summer instead of it being off the road for a single turbo conversion, unfortunatly i dont have £5k sitting spare to throw at the engine so its just basic mods for a bit of extra power at the moment, looking at single turbo for next year :)

Twins are brilliant when done right, and can last a long while.
People are too quick to slate them. A nicely, thoughtfully done twin car can show most things a very clean pair of heels repeatedly, for a long period of time.

However, if yow ant that reliability, you will need to uprate teh IC - the OEM one is properly tiny. Even the super cheap XS power ones do a very good job when combined with some decent ducting - all you need is some allyand tin snips, and a 7 quid rivet gun :)

cheers for that mate, yeah i was thinking about getting a direct replacement for the standard intercooler but obviously a thicker better quality version, you see i have an uprated radiator and the thing is bloody huge! so theres not that much room for a FMIC, id be happy with 0.8 bar max boost when the decat is fitted

:)

All twins are a nugget, the only heals they show are similar to ones Elton John wears in front of his boyfriend at night.

They DO NOT last long at any time, they ALL leak oil, they all fail qucikly even in 100% stock standard form and stock boost pressures.

A single turbo on boost for boost will make another 50rwkw more power (proven this many a time)  :3gears-lh

And have 2000% better reliability.

Enjoy your twins in stock form then BIN THEM and put a real turbo on the RX7, you will NEVER go back to the OEM twins (or any of the upgraded ones) ever. :D

Running a street rotary without a Catalyst is a stupid idea, you end up smelling like petrol all the time, the smell is abhorent!, and you can never run it for a long time at home for the same reasons.

I run a Catalyst on my car and its faster then most peoples dedicated race cars! ........... Just replace your cat with a proper high performance version, they cost very little power and make your car much much nicer (not to mention legal as well).

ah really? smell is that bad? jeez i thought me not showering was bad enough lol, ok ill look into it mate, as i said i have already been supplied with a decat and no-one else running one has mentioned anything about the smell, when i inherit a couple of thousand pounds ill look into a single turbo conversion

BlitzBoy

Rice you dont like the smell of petrol and Premix!!!??? I thought you were a rotary freak like the rest of us hahahahahahaha

Mine does not smell of petrol by the way , I have no cat just silencers, I make sure my idle and cruise is in the correct AFR zone :)

I plugged every place a smell can come from through the firewall and i get no smell now when the car is running just a little wiff in idle
