Hi guys,  just pre-empting more problems...

my exedy hyper single clutch died on me, I\'ve bought a replacement RX-7 kit to discover that it\'s for a "standard" pattern flywheel which the exedy one is not

I have a standard flywheel on the way but then I\'ve suddenly got a nasty feeling about what else non-standard was installed or standard was taken off in order to fit the exedy one

has anyone fitted an exedy hyper single and remember what standard parts were removed in order to fit the exedy (e.g. what else am I going to need other than the flywheel itself to put it back to "standard" shape)

I think I\'m right in saying that to fit a "lightened" flywheel you have to fit a balance weight with it, so that will need to come off to put the standard one back on?

any tips greatfully recieved!

I think with an OEM flywheel it has a counterweight built in, when you go with an aftermarket clutch flywheel combo (I have an ORC 709) I needed to add a counterweight. Does the exedy kit have a counterweight or not? If you are refitting an OEM flywheel then the counterweight should be inbuilt and then you should have a spare counterweight to sell on :D

yeah, that\'s what I thought, I\'ll probably keep the counterweight for when I have the money to switch to a twin plate clutch over the winter :)

having already had to stop and start work for half a dozen other parts, I now have visions of bolts not matching or other parts missing when I come to put the OEM flywheel back on and having to wait for Mazda to get hold of them for me :/

Okay, next problem, cant get the counterbalance off, anyone got any tips?

bumpstart

step 1,, finger tight the front nut if you have loosened it ( included that for those stripping the engine )

step 2 slide a thin piece of tin plate behind the auto weight,, but on top of the rear seal
-- i usually use the plate that is provided on top of the engine as clutch inspection cover

step 3 ,, using 1 or 2 of the 6 bolts that hold the light fly to the weight,, thread them ( without flywheel ) into the counter weight , all the way till they crush down on the tin and bite onto the edge of the rear stat gear and seal
( see,, the tin protects the seal )
tighten them up so they remove the float,, and strain the weight on the taper
-- sometimes this is enough to spring the mass from the taper

if it hasn\'t popped of yet,, it will with only one or two taps with hammer

no need for heat

To get the counter balance off the engine you keep it attached to the flywheel and gently knock the flywheel equally around, did this a few weekends ago with my BP engine I bought of FlickstRR due to the flywheel being removed but the counterweight still left on there lol Its easier to pull the flywheel and counterweight off in 1 go.
