what would the cause to this be?
the clutch cylinder seems to be ok and no leaks along the lines.

would it be inside the clutch, release bearing or something similar causing the problem?

leaking slave cylinder or the pipe going to it are the most likely culprits - check for fluid there ;)

Next place would be the master cylinder...

cheers dave.
apparently lines are ok and the garage is adamant its a problem inside the clutch are itself.

I had a similar problem and it was the clutch slave + master cylinder....

Would the clutch slowly engage when your clutch pedal is on the floor?

I had this issue, no fluid loss at all, but my pedal would hit the floor and not return unless pumped back to pressure.

I bought a rebuild kit from mazdarotaryparts for the clutch master cylinder solved it :) it\'s very easy to do too!

cheers for the replies.
car is still with garage. will suggest the master cylinder rebuild before he starts to take out the gearbox etc as seems thats the expensive way round of doing things. :)

oh, just had a look at the rebuild kit.
is it possible to tell which one is gone?

anyone got a quick \'hot to\' guide?

You can probably get to the salve cylinder easier - if you gently peel back the rubber boot a little - see if there is clutch fluid in there - if there is then it\'s probably this that\'s gone.  You can look at the master cylinder in the same sort of way, but not without taking it off the bulkhead, and that means having to refill and bleed it afterwards.

have they done a complete bleed? They will have to assist the pedal back up when they are bleeding it though but as stated before its a sure sign of an internal fault, the slave will have obvious signs of leaking but the master is harder to tell but it will pay you dividends to rebuild the pair anyway. I was lucky and got two new ones from USA for about £50( few years ago now!!)

Mazda rotary parts have me the bits when I done it, cost me £20 quid per kit if I remember correctly. I think  jimmys rx7 had some used ones in stock too if that\'s any use.
