Interesting thread. I have just rung Sky about amending my policy to an RX7 from my 200SX, and it has to be referred to a head underwriter. I expect my dream is about to be shattered when I get the callback. I paid £815 at 21 for my 200SX, then £890 at 22 thanks to the market wide premium increases. I\'m expecting some stupid figure back now, and I\'m 23 next week.

My insurance was cheaper on my FD with all mods declared than on my big standard work car.

With the insurance companies around you can get some good deals. They become exceptionally cheap when you become 25 though

Gaz.

I found that with my Nissan, cheaper modified than standard. However, I\'m getting a strange feeling about this one. Might have to wait until I\'m closer to my renewal and ring around the various companies as I\'ll actually be 23 and have an extra years NCB to help.

I\'ve also been told to try a classic policy, which I was considering beforehand. I may even try a trade policy as a few people I know run their modified cars on them, and I\'ll be wanting a cheap car to hack around in the winter.

Hi mate just thought i\'d let you know my exp on trade policies.
I have a trade policy and it\'s great right up til you need to make a claim! Then your gonna get trade value for your car.... eventually no courtesy car no frills no legal etc .
I do trade about 20 cars a year as a part time thing along with MOT repairs and servicing and i am registered with HMRC.
The broker will want to see prove of you trading! i.e registering reg numbers and removing them for MID purposes and anything out of the ordinary like an rx7 will have to be declared! My old vx220 was on it and they stipulated a £750 excess in the event of a claim at trade value!

In addition when i skidded on ice a few years back in my  Evo 8 FQ300 the car sat in a compound for 4 months whilst the insurance company and I debated the value! They won!

I couldn\'t jump in a Veyron and tell the owner it\'s ok i\'m insured i have a trade policy, it\'s a big misconception.

I think I\'d compare a trade policy to " we buy any car" in the event of any claim!

Good luck with finding a rx7:cheers, I did the nissan thing but i\'m now smitten with rotary, I\'ve had a s12 s13 s14 s14a r33gts r33gtr and I never intend to sell the rx7 and it\'s not even finished......it\'s a car worth paying the insurance for! My trade policy is 4 figure and my indemnity is less than 10K!

Does it? Im 25 and will be 26 in April, sorted my insurance last week with Adrian Flux ready to go for the 1st of Feb, just over £650 mods declared.
All good apart from I checked through the policy paperwork today and it would appear the woman on the phone seemed to not hear me say \'yes\' when asked is it an import! Anyway not happy, expect they\'ll either say they can\'t cover me or it will go sky high when I ring them back!
So other suggestions of companies to try please!?

i got mine at 22 with admiral was an import £1300 fully comp which i thought was reasonable no limited mileage or anything. 3 points 5 years no claims

As your ringing around it\'s worth knowing that many insurance company\'s will give an extra discount if your a full  owners club member (not just forum guest) and can produce a valid club membership number that can be verified from the relevant club.

It\'s also worth bearing in mind that on top of this these cars qualify for classic car insurance if you have a second car and many will give an agreed value upon receipt of a letter from the club which means you will get a lot lot more if something terrible happens to the car

This means you will get something sensible for a payout and not just their idea of "market value".

Many many FD\'s and others) have tens of thousands of pounds spent but no valuation though this club and yet stand to loose just about everything if something goes badly wrong in the event of an accident be it their fault not.

Sadly over the years I have come across some real heart breakers because of no valuation letters being in place with our cars.

I\'ve also come across good news when agreed valuations are in place with one company paying out £9,000 to get a members FD put back together after a shunt

hope this helps
All the best Clive

TBH I\'d never claim for my own car unless it was something worth claiming for. I only go FC for windscreen cover, and then insurance is a mere legality to me.

I\'d just sell what I could and go from there.

I\'ll be getting my FD soon, waiting for it to be registered and away I go. I phoned my current insurer Sky and asked them what the price would be when renewal comes (April)

I\'m 25 at the minute with 3 Years NCB, based on that she gave me a quote of £1150, I\'m expecting this to go down as renewal I\'ll have another years NCB and I\'ll be 26. If its still pretty high I\'ll ring Pete best, although I\'ve heard you have to be 30 now?

I currently pay £780 on an MR2 with 3.0 V6 conversion all mods declared.

Just did a quick admiral quote for a guide as they\'re not so bad usually.

£1609 FC for me at 23 on a Standard Import, 5 years NCB, 6 years licence, no claims/convictions, 5K miles, no voluntary excess, locked garage, SDP only.

That\'s horrendous, I pay just shy of half that on a modified 200sx! Obviously Flux and the like should be better, but can\'t imagine they\'re £800 better :(

Gaz.

So, Adrian Flux are coming back at £1160 FC on a currently unregistered standard engined but modified RX, better but still makes me wince.

Currently insured with Sky, who will only do TPFT and won\'t add windscreen cover, so that\'s a customer lost by them.

REIS & Peter Best say 25. Performance Direct were less than helpful too.

Isn\'t looking promising TBH.

I\'m 28 years old. 5 years NCB, no points or convictions. 1992 FD twin turbo all mods declared. £210 fully comp. £100 excess. limited to 1500 miles per year. Car on driveway.

I\'m going to give Pete Best a ring when renewals due thats for sure.

I\'m 23 too. Gone with Elephant on a multicar policy and they were really helpfull to be honest.

For paid £-1300 with no NCBs, 2.5 years driving and uninsured 3rd party accident cover.

About the price I was expecting but It had to be paid up front.

So, I\'m now insured on an RX7 :cheers

I tried Adrian Flux, Flux Direct, Sky, Performance Direct and Admiral...

I\'ve been using TPFT since I started driving, I\'ll be 25 this year, that\'s when I\'ll go fully comp. Just don\'t drive like a loon and TPFT will be alright for you until premiums go down.
