its too much fun being 22 years old and kicking a 996 carerra 4s ass on the dual carriage way!  then the day later i had some fun with a noble m12 gto it was brilliant!!  How pissed woyld you be if you had a 72000 porsche getting the ass kicked by a 10000 preg rx7!!!  its just too much fun owning an rx7!!!! Gives a list of cars asses you have kicked!

Schtoo

An FD3S a few years ago in my stoopid fast 1992 Hilux 4WD Diesel.

Also nailed a couple Porsches, a Ferrari or two and even a Lamborghini once.

Bumper to bumper traffic and the abilty to see a looong way ahead made it possible.

I thank the brilliant engineers that dreamed up high ground clearance for allowing me to overtake (and only at part throttle!) such vehicles with all 82hp I had at my disposal... ;)

And all well within posted limits, as I am sure you were doing too...

TBH,  its got to the point where its only worth racing the "super" cars as most others arn\'t a challenge:o

Take my mate for example he has a Lotus Elise and decided to race me, quote "right behind you on the corners, when we got to the straight i thought WHERES HE GONE"!!! end quote

Bearing in mind my rx has a T78 turbo:eek: :rollin

You\'re running 460+ bhp, right? Haha no wonder. When you think about it, some cars (say, a Murcielago) have more power, but in a car that weighs 1260kg (or so) there\'s not going to be a great deal sub £100k that could touch you. For example, even the murcielago would, on paper, lose...as it\'s power-to-weight isn\'t nearly as good as your beast\'s! Makes you feel pretty good i bet!
:D

Hey rx7aberdeen! :wave can i ask what mods you have just out of interest? also, who are you insured with (similar age myself!)? Cheers mate. :)

If your on a road, then its seriously a case of whoever is the biggest nutcase is going to \'win\'.  Unless its just a straight duel carraigeway.  Around bends almost anything can have a go if you dont know where your going and they are a loonatic.

Closest thing to me wasnt some supercar or anything, but an old Opel Manta who was giving it hell and that was fast!

Here is an interesting article I like.  Have a read.:

Lee,

you\'re right there mate theres a chap in Derby driving a evo whos a nut case when it comes to bends and what not, no way i\'m doing that!!!

Most people who drive like looney\'s can afford to replace their cars without much trouble whereas i cant, recently was behind a Imprezas around country lanes, he put his foot down expecting a race i carried on at 30mph:rollin

i had some fun with a audi tt last weekend on the m40 i was surprised at how it kept up till the second turbo come in then bye bye audi .only then to discover a marked police car in layby at which point i was well over 120mph slowed down luckly it never came after me but did make me think would it had been worth  losing my liecence for

FDDreamer

Cheers for that post Lee, was a great article...makes so much sense as well. To be honest i\'m not sure many people still race in that sense though...the old traffic light GPs are something that everyone i know left behind as a fond memory of being 17! :)

Even so, it makes some excellent points. Never really considered what a difference reaction times would make.

Most \'racing\' scenarios seem now to occur on motorways, roughly from say 70mph up to whatever speed the traffic/road allows. But i think in races like that the points in the article aren\'t quite so relevent, as momentum would probably make up for any differences \'off the line\', and of course once you hit say, 3 figures, it does become a question of power as lesser cars will start to feel breathless.

Not to mention, of course, the mentality of the people in the cars. A friend of mine is constantly up and down the country circa 150mph, will race anything and everything, and refuses point blank to wear a seatbelt. He reckons it restricts his movement...but he\'s just that kind of guy - convinced that if something happens, it happens.

Racing people like that has got to be a nightmare! Actually, the only time i\'ve ever seen him put his seatbelt on was when this guy in a modded 328 cut him up, ended up blasting past him and on to 175+...was an amazing ride. Car is a new BMW CSL, very very impressive considering it\'s not THAT powerful.

gaz1011...it puts it all into perspective, doesn\'t it? Racing is all very well and good fun, but not worth the risks involved normally. Out of interest, how many of you guys have Road Angels etc etc installed?

Yeah the link is obviously a little American based, but it explains itself very well and makes sense.  It can still be applied to most situations I think youll find yourself in.

If im going to have a play with something Ill pretty much never go first as I dont like looking like some idiot who wants a race if they arnt up for it!  Mostly round here is dual carraigeway and roundabouts, so it also gives an idea of how important exit speed off the roundabout is.

Infact in a more serious run in with another car, I was able to pass it by carrying higher exit speed, but it got back in front by the nextroundabout albeit less than impressed lol.  Bloody Nova!  Im sure the rex would be quicker though so its ok now :)

FDDreamer

A n-n-n-n-nova? Beating FD? Now there\'s something that can\'t happen everyday. There\'s a guy in the office here, has only owned novas, and is obsessed with the things. He\'s still of the inclination that a nova can beat anything with the right tuning, but misses the fundamental point that a 10 second nova is still a nova! :rollin

Also, like you said, that guy was prob driving like a loony with no regard for his car or anything else. Yeah, also sure rex would be the quicker car!

It\'s also interesting, most people i know are like you...won\'t go first, but just after the other car. I wonder what difference that makes, after reading that article?
Adrian

J4P RX

Was in my GTiR, but it still shouldnt be done by a Nova :D   FD should of been ok, but it would still be faster than a standard one.

Yeah, the fundamental point I went home with was "its still a nova" and hes spent more on it that my car is worth so I felt ok again :)

FDDreamer

It\'s funny that, isn\'t it? I just don\'t get why people want to do that. There was a chap where i used to live who had an Fiesta RS Turbo which would beat elise\'s etc round the twisties near us, but he spent so much on the thing it just made it seem pointless.

When the car you\'re racing cost more in total than the car your setting out to humble it makes it all seem a bit redundant! :)
Adrian

<Daneh>

Im convinced mine aint putting out the HP it should be, me and a friend on a slip road onto the motorway, i could barely pass him and he was 3 up in a Prelude V-tec (2.2). :(

I really need to get mine on a rolling road, dont think i\'ve got any local to me though.

rextreme

Similar to old Rx2 or 3. in Australia.

When I had My "old" Rx7 FC Turbo the number of Rx2\'s and 3\'s wanting to race from the lights was amazing.

But the thing is, If they want to race you know they are probably going to win cause under the hood they have spent money. So you dont. Even with a big TO4 and lots of mods on my FC.
Just let them think your going to. first and second gear for me then let them go. Ill just cruise in Stlye.

You cant compete with 700kgs.

But when doing my runs around the mountains. Funny, I never saw any of those guys. It was always a bike that wanted to race.
