To put it in perspective. The FB matched the fuel cost of a 41mpg diesel 3 1/2 yrs ago. Now it is the same as a 31mpg diesel. Where is the sense in that for a clean fuel ?

I agree with you there I sold my LPG Transit a few years back because I could just see that either the Government were going to pull the plug on the subsidy (which they didn\'t) or like diesel they saw that everyone was switching to it so a price hike was inevitable.

DR SCHNITZEL

Lpg cost to work was 7 pound a day now its 12 quid in gas the same as petrol. The Rx is 25 quid running 18 to 1 afrs

DR SCHNITZEL

its gone up in a year from 48 p to 80p

Hi RX7

Listening to the interview David Cameron gave on Radio 4 this morning I can\'t see that they are going to do anything about the price of fuel so a bit like people on PAYE, motorist are stuck with a system designed to suck the life blood out of you and its pay pay pay pay pay pay pay and more pay.

Yep, every time they stick a couple of pence of petrol they have matched the rise on LPG ! I don\'t know how much the cold weather has effected the price but can you see it dropping any time soon ?

I remember it being 33.5p/lt when I swapped over originally. I swapped from a diesel 106 that cost me £8 a week to run to the FB that cost £20 !

i believe if people are ....ed off at petrol prices, fine, get together, put in some money, and start producing gasoline for yourselves. remember, free free capitalist market is the reason we have this amazing quality of life, and some things are more expensive than others.

Quote from: jetpilot;736295I think the recent events of fuel price rise will be the first big test for them, in respect of peoples views, as nothing seems to get the populous going more than rising motoring costs. It will be very interesting to see how they cope with public demand and apparent strikes/road blocks etc.

I for one was very impressed with Cameron\'s manifesto pledge that they will address the issue and cap the price of fuel per litre, being completely frank and saying its not possible to reduce it because of our huge debt. Fair enough, some balls to say we need the duty not make up some Labour rubbish that it was being raised due to global warming.

However, i saw an interview today with Andrew Marr where he was asked about the above and it was immediately brushed off that the Tory government werent able to act on it as it now wasnt something they were able to do because of the co allition with Libs.

This is not the reason i solely voted Tory, although i know thats not what we got! But i think for the first time i will be very miffed that a government i voted for arent upholding some of their manifesto, regardless of some Liberals now involved.

Out of interest how much do you pay for petrol in Japan ??

nice idea, but wouldn\'t particularly help tbh, you are still liable for duty and VAT on it. Couple that with the horrendous cost of the equipment that you would need, as well as the raw material (crude) that you will still have to pay $80/barrel for in the first place!!

incidentally, gas for $30/barrel? Apparently so. This is doing the rounds at my work...

clicky

Not as far fetched as it sounds, as carbon dioxide contains two thirds of the elements required to make alcohols. It has been tried for decades, but the problem is that carbon dioxide is an extremely stable molecule - i.e. it doesn\'t want to become anything else and thus takes horrendous amounts of energy to do so.

However, the use of biological entities combined with existing technology (biochemical engineering) allows us to in effect mimic natures own processes, which by definition are magnitudes more efficient than those developed by man.

As i said before the best thing to do is park up the guzzlers and buy a decent small car for everyday use - bring out the RX once in a while sadly

Not an option for some that need larger vehicles, i.e vans. If i had the choice i wouldnt even run a daily, i would buy a scooter! If you want value for money they are the only way forward, cheap outlay too.

Nik da Greek

Nahhhh. scooters are utterly ghey :2Rolleyes Get a 125cc motocrosser, it\'ll do like 70 mpg and has the plus that you\'ll be able to pull what our antipodean cousins would refer to as "horn monos" on your daily commute. That\'s "wheelies" in English :D

Sorry guys, you need to move to Asia to see real prices, UK is cheap to run a car compared to Malaysia and Singapore.

Fuel prices in Singapore are the same as the UK, to have a car on the road you need a certificate of entitlement, current price around £35,000 for 10 years and then there is 300% import duty for new cars and it is not cost effective to import older cars (cannot import a car older than 3 years old), taxed huge amounts if you try to import newer cars...

You also have pay for annual road tax, as per the UK.

Cannot wait to get back to the UK for cheap motoring...
