yea. If its going to be a daily make sure you get adjustable dampers. stiff shocks are about 10 times more annoying than a welder

This is going to be an internal fight with myself right untill I actually get my cash out. My problem is I always wanted an fd, couldn\'t afford one so get an fc. Then you kind of fall for them don\'t you. So tough to decide, thanks so much for the help!

Nik da Greek

Odd really, that if you post in the 2nd gen section wondering whether to buy an FC or an FD you get an overwhelming repsonse in favour of the FC :rollin Post the same question in the 3rd gen section, you may just find you get a different response :Hammer

With that said, I\'d argue that no rotary model should be bought with a view to running on a really tight budget, none of them are cheap to run and maintain, especially if you want the expense of prepping and running in drift spec. Just a thought :Thumbs-up

The Gen 1 2 3 and 4 (RX-8) are all very different animals to drive with very different characteristics,

Drive the  Gen 1 and 2 and in the Gen 2 you will feel a vague similarity just as you will across from the Gen 3 to the Gen 4 which tells you where the car was derived from, but thats it :)

As Nik says, reality is none of them are cheap to run and maintain.

If we then move onto drift/ race cars, then if built for out and out racing effectivly the above can become irrelivent as then your only looking at a prefered RX body shape, because you can end up with the same powerplant under the hood and make each handle about the same with the right amount of money :driving.
All the best Clive

Again thanks for the comments guys! I won\'t be running it on such a tight budget, it\'s just saving I\'m not good at. All comments taken on board though thanks guys, I\'m not going to be going for an out and our track car. Which ever Rex I finally buy will be primarily a daily driver.

Thanks again, everyone has been very helpful and i hope to stick around!

Ben

flatout

fc is the way to go, be different,

B.Martin

Yeah I think your right matey, I\'m gonna wait and hopefully A nice fc with a rebuild will turn up!

Again thanks to everyone

What a shame - another classic hacked about and sent down the toilet.

People have different viewpoints I guess - but the mods on the car are not over the top.

In 10 years time when these cars are true classics, people will be crying out for original un-b\'stardised examples and there won\'t be any left.  They\'ll just disappear from our roads completely  :(   Me sad now.

yet it is the hacked about and b\'sterdised ones that get the most care and attention off their owners because they dont want to see their hard work and cash go to the scrapheap due to rot.

These cars do not fair well in this country, simple fact, even with the one on the ad i linked to, it had one elderly male owner and his daughter before our guy bought it, and even that had rot.

to find an unmolested, clean and solid example with no rot, you need to go abroad or be very very very lucky, classic or not, and it will only be much worse in 10 years time.

You\'re quite clearly too young to remember the "joys" of owning a British Leyland car - waffer-thin metal that would rust at the merest sight of a drop of rain.  Lucky we don\'t get much of that in this country  ;)

Bodywork can be restored relatively easily but finding all the emission junk that has been ripped out and binned by some careful previous owner will be impossible.

Skifledanabit

so... my point proven...? how many british leyland cars are there around now? Not many, some minis, a few Rover SD1\'s austins etc... and seeing as the tuning/modding scene isnt that big with some of them, (excluding the minis and maybe some Metros), they wouldn\'t be too common, simply because most people dont/didnt bother with them and left them to a scrappy.
Yeah ok, some owners clubs and fans restored them, but not as many as there were, also, the RX7 is a sports coupe, released during the 80\'s oil crisis... hence why they made the EGi version, not many people would have bought them, making it a losing battle compared to how many BL cars were sold over the years until their demise
