I would go for the rx4 coupe over the other 2, if I got the converted rx4 I would always feel that I hadnt got a proper rx4.

Also I would go for a coupe over the sedan version. Looks so much better.

If I were you I would see them bot all and choose the one that best suits your needs, if you want a car to drive for a while without a problem then choose the one that is in the best condition. As every rotary owner knows they will be spending cash on it at some point wether it\'s a new engine gearbox, diff etc.

Hope this helps

Thanks Grant for your input.

I too was thinking about the Rx4 coupe, but i was thinking about the price too, in Thai Baht, the Rx4 coupe runs around 180,000Baht but the 929/Rx4 is going for just 75,000Baht.

And of course i was always going to rework it to fit my style.

As above, go for the RX4 over the 929.

929 converts are cool as but there is nothing like a true authentic rotary. If I had the choice I would spend a bit more to get one.

Love the coupe!

Sedans are cool too...

All old school Mazda\'s rock...whichever ride you choose will be fun!

Any RX4 parts in Thailand kicking around?

ModH

There are some up in Bkk, but not sure what parts are available, i havn\'t talked to my mate much about it yet. I have some Aus friends who ship some back on the ships from Aus with them. So i was thinking of getting them to bring me over some.

Rivalrx

Aussie is the place for cheap rx4s and 929s.

good luck with your hunt

No problem mate - below is a thread on a Kiwi rotary forum about an 808 coupe (818 in Europe) that has been rotorized in Thailand...you may have to sign up to read but that is no bother.

£3,849 For the rx4 is a good price, depending on condition and engine spec though, just used the converter on my phone to see how much 180,000 baht is.

Make sure you check the chassis numbers to see if It is a genuine rx4, 13 b should start with La23s not sure about the 12a ones though or the piston ones as I wouldn\'t want you paying the extra 105,000 baht for a non original rotary.

The chassis numbers are under the hood/bonnet in the top left hand side if you don\'t know, also a silver plaque with the numbers on it towards the top middle of the bulk head

LA22 is the code for the 72/73 12a twin dizzy model
( originally hardtops [ coupe ] had an H code at the end,, later coupes and sedans all cop the S code )

LA23 is the code for the 74-75 model in most countries
( i think in australia the code continues for s3 type )

LA33 is the later rx4 s3 front in some markets , though i suspect it actually relates to certain body mods for some markets ( US collision standards )

LA43 is the luce legarto ,, or rx9 in some euro markets ,, this is a very different body to all the earlier 929\'s
( the sedan is the one with the overhead twin stacked headlights )

HBSN2 is for 12a and 12at 929 LUCE/cosmo from 1981 through to 1987
HB3S is for 13b RESI luce/cosmo from 83-87

Here\'s a picture of the plaque;

thats definately a piston car, check the others too if you can, especially if you do decide to buy the genuine rx4.

ModH

Will try to get around to doing that sometime in the new year. They live quite a ways away from me. They are Thai so i have to persuade my gf to talk to them for me and she hates that i want one of these cars, she calls them "Taxi" cars haha, cos most old cars here are used as taxi cars.
I\'ll try to get emailed pics of the plaques and post when i get them.

After much thought, i decided on the black and white RX4/929.
Going to make a trip to pick it up next week :D
