thought I should say hi

I\'m Ross I\'m from birmingham I am currently rebuilding a nissan 200sx s14 as it has been really hit by the dreaded rust bug.

but I\'m hoping to get a fd in the next few months can\'t make my mind up if i want one that needs work or get rebuilt clean car. I\'m starting to think I like the building and working on them more than the driving :wack:

Hi Ross

Welcome to MRC.

Hope you have a great time on this forum. Here members are very helpful. In my opinion you should buy an FD which needs work doing to it as everything will be done on her according to your spec and on the other hand if you find an FD which is cheap but comes with loads of goodies including rebuild..then buy that one..

Syed

hi syed

thanks for the welcome

I\'m one of those people that likes to do as much as I can

would love to go single turbo, v mount ect

I\'ve seen one on auto trader but its was cat d damaged but trying to find out more about it I mean don\'t want a rear ended one or anything too bad i think the price needs to come down

does anyone know this car or is it anyones from heres?

Mir

Hi Work2drift, I personally don\'t know this car. But I would not buy a Cat C or D car..having said that, sometimes insurance companies do declare car Cat C or D without her being damaged severely...So don\'t know it for definite :)

I would try my best to help you, when you own an FD

Yh I\'ll try to fine out more info on it.

wanted a rx7 for years then the s14 came up really really cheap so ended up with that but thats just a drift toy

insurance companies seem to wright older cars off for like dents in the doors and as long as its not bent could always cut out the damage and weld new steel in the 200sx gives me enough practice

Do the fds have much trouble with rust?

this is my s14 rusts on both side of the rear sills

clive

Welcome to MRC, we hope we can help with any questions you may have  :Thumbsup!
All the best Clive

Well I heard that UK RX7 have problem with rust..but I must stress that this is something I heard...on the other hand I have owned more than 3 RX7s and so far I have not experienced any rust on any of them...All my 3 RX7s were Japanese import....

hey clive thanks for the welcome

I think most of them are imports I mean thats another things I\'ve been thinking about importing one I\'m a member on driftworks.com and they have a used Japanese car importers on there some extremely nice fds on there site some go cheap

but guessing a few need engine rebuild which I guess you can\'t do yourself from what I\'ve read

Mir

Well people may differ on this, but I prefer doing rebuild myself...I have 20b FD which I am not rebuilding myself because of the obvious reasons!!! but building a 13b is not a problem you can learn to do it yourself...I would say if you want, you are most welcome to come and visit me in London. I am planing to build a 13B engine myself but I would strongly use Jason at supre7 or pip at WGT for mapping as both of them are mapping gurus. After blowing several engines, I learnt that its all in the tuning, no matter how strong your engine is build, if the map is not right-it will blow...

I am sure if you wrote this "I\'m one of those people that likes to do as much as I can " then you are capable of doing a rebuild yourself and trailer a car to Jason or pip for mapping... :)

I am willing to help you with the rebuild...if you ever needed one...and yeah I dont charge for helping :)

thats pro mate

I mean I would love a 20b but for now a 13b single would be better than amazing I think thats my plan to get one that needs work

is there many special tools needed for the a 13b rebuild?

Mir

well you need a torque Ranch, Dail Indicator, a gauge for the side seals gap between corner seals, one 54mm Socket for the big nut, ratchets and few sockets, mostly you would use 10mm, 12 mm, 14 mm sockets and you need a good eye also to know whether your housings and iron plates are good enough-in order to be reused!! :)

There are other tools also needed but I cant remember them on top of my head loll

I feel better about getting a rough one now tbh i read a lot of people saying how hard it is and how it takes years to have the skills

I guess as long as I take my time and read up on everything and get help from you I should be ok

Mir

Yes u will be.

thinking about going to see this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MAZDA-RX7-FD3S-K-REG-ROLLING-SHELL-LOGBOOK-/200547781629?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2eb1944bfd#ht_884wt_907

that way I can rebuild a broken engine and make sure everything good

only trouble is it will have to live outside for a while while i the nissan is in the garage in bits

but what do you guys think I\'m a rx7 noob?

will_1223

problem is although thats a good base car, at 700 you then got to consider if you buy a basic engine with ancillaries it will cost you 800 plus, then you wont know the history of the engine, may have to buy new rotors and housings costing you over 2-3k for build, then you gotta buy all the bits to put the car back together which could total over 2k when you have to find all them little bits and bobs, then you gotta think about all the modding you wanna do which will cost you way over 5k so your looking at over 12k for a car that you could realistically buy for half that, that car is only good if you got a smashed up rx7 you need to reshell as you got all the parts ready!!
