Have been looking at my engine and have thought that it would look even better with the pump and everything else that goes with it removed,

so I would like to know what a road car would be like to drive without power steering?

Would it be too heavy for normal daily driving? I don\'t drive a huge amount in the car and if I came to not like it I could just put the pump and everything back on?

You could do what many people have done, and use an electric power steering pump, and mount it out of sight :)

One thing you have to remember - simply removing the PS pump and looping the lines is not the same as running a proper manual rack, or even a standard rack that\'s been modded for non PS use.
A \'looped line\' rack will be much harder to move than  a manual rack, and won\'t have anywhere near as much feel, due to the flex in the input shaft of the rack.

I have a couple of RHD racks for sale :)  Far safer than modding your rack, lighter, and give you a quicker rack too

I have been looking at your manual racks, really like the look of it. What are they like to use on the road? I\'m not too fussed about heavy steering for parking as don\'t go "shopping" that much so don\'t often have to park in tricky spots.

Another problem I have with my car is that there is a bit of play in the steering wheel before it actually turns the wheel, now this I take it is not normal?!

Electric power steering pump? So that means I can take the belt driven unit off but run the the pipes elsewhere to the electric pump? Obviously would require wiring to power the unit, but not too hard of a job seen as I am an electrician and cars and buildings are vertually the same.

I am going to be at oulton park this Wednesday on track so could have a chat about it if you don\'t mind? In between the driving that is?

Yup, I used a PS pump from a Saxo :)

You need to get a custom feed line made up as it\'s very high pressure (~1000PSI) so you can\'t bodge it, but the wiring is dead simple - same as anything really - decent 40A relay and an appropriate fuse, along with good wiring.

I know some people don\'t like it, but I\'ve noticed no detriment to the feel over the normal PAS tbh.

Mine\' hidden away under a frame rail at the front driver\'s side.
I\'ve seen people stick them where the oil coolers go/under the headlights with sleek lights as well.

Only issue I have with mine is that it\'s got the trigger for the relay connected to an ignition live - means if I sit there with the ignition on then the pump runs. I\'d like to try and find a feed that is only live when the engine\'s running if I can.

No this isnt normal.  Could either be play in the column or rack.  There is an element of slack due to the nature of the split in the column, or it could be down to the mounts on the column to the dash bar

Yeah....I imagine there will be lots of time to chat, as unless people have outboard motors....the outlook aint looking that great! :(

The weather outlook isn\'t the best is it! But never mind, kind if get use to it raining all the time in this country, only in this country with global warming could the weather get worse!

Do they still allow us to go around the track in the wet?

AtomicRex

Driving in wet is just as rewarding as driving in the dry....well learning wise!

If you love driving fast I\'d rather have a stiff steering, it\'s safer than the one very agile and very responsive specially when you are driving fast.
