Why out with the rear light?

I replaced mine without touching the lights...

 I dont know I think I read it somewhere and thats the way I got the old one out ..

workshop manual says drop the rear light out and that\'s how I\'ve always done it too ( even before I\'d read the manual!)

It can be done either way it\'s just by taking out th rear light unit you have gretaer access for removal/installation and also ease for attaching to the support bracket.  For the sake of a few minutes to remove the light unit, saves taking out bad temper or frustration on the household pet (\'er indoors) :rollin
