Hey guys.  My name\'s mark, i\'m new to the forum.  Needing a bit of help finding some sort of adapter for my oil metering pump to accept an external oil feed.  I recently rebuilt my lump, fired up ok and everything seemed to be fine.  But i\'m always worring about the OMP since this is how I blew my engine in the first place.  I\'ve done a bit of looking on the net about pre mixing and modifying the OMP to run two stroke from another tank and allowing the use of fully synthetic in the lump. Quiet keen on that idea so i\'ve stripped down what i needed to get to the OMP off, now i need to find an adapter or modify the OMP to accept the external tank feed and send the engine oil back to the engine.

Anyone heard of these adapters and know where i could source one, or anyone done this mod alredy?

Thanks, Mark

Cheers mate. Have you used that company or done the mod?

Prof

I\'ve run one for over a year, and Pete Taylor also has one on the orange beastie - they do work !

I had to rebuild the engine last winter due to a waterseal failure (too much boost :rollin), but the good news was the engine was really clean inside and no evidence of uneven wear on the housings - so gets a thumbs up from me :Thumbs-up

Nice one, sounds like a good mod.

Is it pretty straight forward to do, fit the adapter and the tank and off you go, or do you have to mess about with the mix ratios of the oil? What kind of two stroke are you using? Did you have any trouble getting in touch with the company that sells the kits, there e-mail doesn\'t seem to work?

Prof

Hi Mark,

Fitting of the unit is quite straightfoward - he even supplies longer bolts to go through the omp and the adaptor. You need to find the npt fitting (1/8) to go into the unit itself for the new oil feed, and obviously the tank and piping to that. I used a catch can and some 4an line with an adaptor onto the OMP - so it looks nice and I can dismount it more easily.

The only problem I had on the FC is the oil return line from the turbo needs to be lengthened - I did away with the stock one and made up a return line in 10an fittings and T04 flange adaptor for the oil drain and front of engine.

The adaptor does move the oil pump very close to the lower water hose - it fits ok, but it\'s tricky ;)

As for contacting him - Rotary Aviation sell them on behalf of the guy that makes them - Richard Sohn - he has another day job so it may be a day or two before he answers - but I never had any problem getting hold of him.

Oh and the oil - I use TCW3 - Quicksilver premium - it\'s a bluey colour - meant for high revving 2 strokes - so ideal for the rotary it would seem, and it has detergents built into it.  I\'ve not messed with any mixture settings - not that you really can on the electronic S5 system as metering is controlled by the ECU - so only adjustable if you have a PowerFC standalone ECU that\'s also running the OMP.

Thanks very much for the info, managed to get a hold of the company and got one of the adapters ordered up. Found quite a tidy looking tank on ebay too, so when everything arrives i\'ll get onto fitting them :) Thanks again for the info and help

How much did the conversion bits cost in total mater as I\'m looking at doing this on my new engine when it gets sorted!

For the adapter it was about £90 including postage and I managed to source a nice 1.5 litre tank off of ebay for £50. Still looking for some hose and a low oil level switch to go in the tank but they shouldn\'t come to much mate. Worth while mod for the price.
