Why does everyone seem to put an fc engine[13b] in their project cars, when you could put an Fd engine in.
The above link is an Fd engine, recently rebuilt circa 450bhp.[single turbo]
Yes i know suspension, brakes, diff would need upgrading, but is it really difficult to fit an Fd engine in a Fb?:2Rolleyes

I can\'t really see the point, what would you gain from it that you don\'t get from the FC engine conversion which is tried, tested and well documented. Seems a lot of extra effort for liitle gain.
I wouldn\'t want to drive a FB roadcar with 450bhp... terrifying I would imagine.

Putting a 13B-REW into an FB is a mammoth task-way more work that the FC conversion. I\'ve read a few build threads of this conversion on RX7club and they ain\'t pretty.

I\'ll pop over there & look.
It would be primarily for track use, hence my interest in lexan windows, carbon fibre panels etc.
I\'ve seen a few powerfull fd engines for sale over the last few months[often with all ancillaries inc turbo\'s/intercoolers/wiring harnesses/ecu/gearbox etc,but no fc engines with that sort of power.
Interestingly Fb\'s correctly modified in the US with GM  ls7 engines,505hp,do handle & drive pretty well,as always there\'s a big debate over which is best,V8 or rotary.

There is one in particular by username \'ductape\' the amount of work that was involved compared to mine and others 13BT is mind boggling. It is an SA, made crazy power on the rollers- mental.

Oh and if someone tried to sell me an LS7 powered FB I\'d give them a slap

Haha yep,i\'m well aware of the controversy this causes.
I\'d stick with a Wankel.
Been looking at various conversions on you tube, some of the power figures are incredible on the rollers!

When I was looking at the engine conversion for my mx5, there were various reasons why an FC engine made more sense.

The twin turbo set-up on the 13b REW is pretty large and too big for the mx5 engine bay for one.

From what I could read up, if you goto after market turbo, manifold and management then theres little real world performance difference between the FC and FD blocks, even more so if the engines ported.

Finally, and this kinda sealed the deal, because FD blocks are so much more in demand an FD block with good compression and some life left in it costs a lot more than a similar FC block!
1984 Rx7: Gold. Edging towards roadworthyness!

Just check out RICERACING\'s thread in the FC section-there is a link to a magazine article on a build he did in an FB back along-just shows what can be achieved with a 13BT and some knowhow. (It\'s in Ramons thread about biiiiiiig injectors)

Hmmm, since that is exactly what I am aiming for fancy being a passenger? :D

Zoom zoom?

Re engine swap: FD engine will take the earlier front cover, but there are issues with the sump due to the rear engine mounting, vs front mounting for the FB and centre mounting for the FC - which got me musing the other day when I found out that the earlier twin distributor engines mount off the side of the front cover - is there any mounting method Mazda have not used??
