Hi all, finally behind the wheel of an RX7 again after stupidly selling my last one about 3 years ago, and regretting it.

Bought the car last week which drove great running 341 bhp , but unfortunately the engine developed what I thought was a slight coolant issue with the level dropping a little after long journeys causing the low level light to come on on initial startup. Should have know it wouldn\'d be a simple fix with water and RX7\'s I guess :2Confused

Did the champagne test and sadly confirmed that the water seals are on their way out. DOH!

Not a great start, but have the car booked with the guys at REWORX for a re-build, looks like I\'m getting that street port sooner than planned :Thumbs-up

Hope nothing else goes wrong  :(, an expensive start although I was looking at a re-build within a year but wanted a respray/V-mount/single turbo first

Should have done the champers test before you bought her silly :3Confused.

Welcome back mate-albeit a rather expensive return!

Seen this again and again, once bitten never forgotten :Giggle Welcome back

As you say it\'s going to be an expensive route but your going to get what you want, I wish you well :burnout
All the best Clive

Guess it\'s par for the course when dealing with older cars.  Good luck on the upgrades and should be very nice when done.

Yep, did feel a bit stupid, thought I\'d know better. I did the mayo check from cold and was there when the compression test was done, all in the mid to high 7\'s, and ran the car for a decent period with no water loss.
Think I\'ve just caught the very begining as the car is still very drivable with the water level only dropping about an inch.
Hope no nasty surprises come up when the engine is stripped.

As you say, I won\'t be caught out again, just lucky I was looking to street port at some time otherwise I\'d be gutted, just changed the order I\'m doing things I guess :Laugh

Sorry to hear that I know how you feel I replaced the engine for the very same reason, might be worth sticking some K seal in for the time being.

Hey Danny

Only have to wait a few days as I\'m dropping the car down to REWORKS on Wed for the rebuild and street port.
I did presume the engine would need sorting at some time as I know the water seals perish over time, but certainly didn\'t expect it to be within 5 days of buying the car

Even with the car home and doing the champagne test, it was very hard to spot, needed to run the car into boost to see any effect, and no water loss was evident while driving about before hand.

I\'m glad I caught it so early so should be no damaged internally and I wanted to street port the motor sometime in the future anyway, just need to re-arrange the tuning shedule somewhat.:)
