Dualist

Hi guys,
I\'ve aquired a 12a or so I thought, turns out it has an bodged adapter plate to take the 12a nikki carb but the motor is a 13b (motor was stood in a shed with only the carb attached and no history).
Now how can I tell if it is a turbo or non-turbo version without stripping it.? Engine numbers.?
Am asking as the carb jets are the same as the ones on my 12a so thinking the guy may have been a retard and just slapped it all together and hoped it all worked as I\'m sure it would have needed to have been rejetted to work properly.
Thanks in advance.
Dave. :)

What front cover does it have on it? I\'d have thought you\'d be able to tell turbo or non by whether it\'s got the oil return hole on the front left bottom as you look at it.

Dualist

ah got ya, thanks, will check in the morning.

Brett

Bear in mind it may be an older 13B type too..

Looks like it is a N/A version then....

@Brett, how do I tell how old it is mate.?

captainbizzaro

Thats only a two line OMP on there so could be chance it has had the front cover swapped at some point which doesn\'t help the oil return thread theory. Unless like Brett said it\'s a 13b from waaaaay back.

Daft question are you in Boston nr Nottingham or US of A?

Dualist

I think it didn\'t run too long in this guise as the rotors look pretty carbon free. Calls for a strip down then.
Are there any pics of rotors high and low compression for a side by side comparison on the forum as searching for \'rotor\' gives you quite a few pages to shift though :D just wondering how deep the cut outs are.

I\'m in Boston Lincs, down the road from Skeggy :D

Being one to never miss out an opportunity I have a sweet 12A with carb for sale that can be seen running if you need a back up plan! It\'ll still be in my FB for another couple of weeks.

Dualist

he he, thanks for the offer bud but I\'ll pass thanks ;) this one is going into a car of some sort, preferably a tax exempt one (no time limit) just gonna play with it in the mean time. And I have a 12a part stripped that I\'m going to make into a single rotor bike engine that needs to be done by mid next year.
I was curious about this engine as I brought it from a guy saying it was a 12a and came with the gearbox for £75, wasn\'t until I brought a proper 12a for £25 that things didn\'t look right.

captainbizzaro

Ha no worries, single rotor bike sounds cool.

antnicuk

look in the exhaust port,  if the sleeve has a divider in it then its egi, N/A,  if the sleeves are open then it may be turbo
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

Brett

Can you give us a few more pics?  Do you have the water pump etc?

More pics and we might be able to get you a definative answer :)

Yep will post more pics tomorrow guys :) and I do have the water pump.

Dualist

got pics of waterpump and exhaust port, anything else you guys need.?
Why don\'t they have engine numbers stamped on all sections.?
Anyhoo...

Looks very similar to the one off my 12a so thinking uber old :(

You sold the engine yet, chap? I\'m looking for a 12A and gearbox for my street sleeper Morris Minor...
