I ordered parts from mazdatrix in US & got charged import duty,can\'t remember how much now,but parcelfarce woul\'nt deliver till it had been paid.
Don\'t think on 2nd hand items import duty is payable,i got S1 rear lights & OZ spec door mirrors, import duty free, but i remember Ian got stung for his 2nd hand Oz spec door mirrors.
I\'m sure if there\'s no invoice enclosed, how can they charge you import duty, customs dose,nt know what it\'s worth?

I thought you were talking about fuel line carrier clips, not union connector clips.
All their concerned about is abrasion/chaffing on the fuel lines.
Stick at it steve your getting there.

Steve-A

Yeah, I\'ve paid duty on everything I\'ve had from the US including duty on the declared value of 2nd hand parts, so it\'s not a surprise if I have to pay.

Ah yeh, the comment about P clips make more sense now! Cheers dude :)

It gives me the hump paying import duty, what happened to a free market?
It\'s protectionism through taxation.

Speaking of which i saw 4 shocks for front & rear for approx £110 in US,very cheap, but with import duty & deliverey?You\'d have to work it out if worthwhile.

Help!

As some/most of you will have spotted a new member joined up today and has stated that he\'s got a 12a bridge port with 48mm IDAs, matching exhaust system, intake manifold, coils etc for sale. Everything needed to drop easily into another car.

Seeing as the n/a route was one I was considering for Rexanne I dropped him an email right away figuring stuff like this doesn\'t hang about long and got some extra details.

Apparently it\'s a 12a that was in his 323 rally car, which he\'s now swapped out for piston power. He claims it was running around 200hp upto 11k RPM. He said the engine was starting to smoke a little so he took it out and had it stripped down to be inspected. Now I tried to ask more about the state of the engine post inspection, but he wasn\'t very clear. Either way it sounds like it would need a full set of seals, £1200 from MRP it appears. I\'ve asked for pictures of the housings and rotors and plates.

It needing a rebuild doesn\'t scare me as such, because if I put all fresh seals in it I know it should last me a while yet. So if the rotors, hosuings and plates look good then I\'m very keen to get hold of it...

But, he basically kept saying make him and offer, I guess he\'s not sure what its worth. And I\'ve really no ideas what it\'d be worth. I don\'t wanna low ball him and insult him but at the same time I don\'t want to pay double the market value!

So, anyone got any idea of a ball park price I\'d expect to pay for a 12a bp, that needs a rebuild, with 48mm IDA and bits and bobs??

I really hate that when you get \'price on application\' or \'make me an offer\'
I\'ve lost count of the number of times I\'ve just walked away as soon as I hear those words.
They\'re his parts... and it\'s up to him to name his price. He\'s the one who knows what they\'re worth to him... owe him... how much he wants for them.

myatt1972

Sounds to me that you are only buying the IDA\'s, plenty of 12a\'s about (ive got 4) if you are doing a rebuild you could port your own with a template.
If I remember correctly 10k max rpm on standard internals.
Keith...

Steve-A

True Keith.... I hadn\'t really thought about it like that. Though I thought the rotors needed some modification to spin past 8k?

if you\'re going to crack open a known strong engine just to port it, you can get away with a set of soft seals... a lot cheaper than £1200 .... I seem to remember I was quoted around £350 for a set???

myatt1972

You could well be right, you need to do some digging and find out exactly whats up for grabs.
Then bid him in the balls, its the only place to start if he wont give you a price :D.

Steve-A

Well I\'ve got a known perfectly good 12a in the from of the one in the front of Rexanne now...

So if it went for the right price I could could do a soft seal rebuild with the pre-ported plates, bolt on the IDA and enjoy the scream? hmmm...

Oh i hate poa!
It may be worth asking the guys on exil. site there\'s a couple of guys on there who have rebuilt engines,so i think you\'d get better advice.
Don\'t give away sellers details though!

Cheers Stu.

To be honest, I\'ve been having a crap day feeling tired and uncreative, working on a new tough project and was being distracted by engine thoughts, so kinda got a bit over excited at the thought of an easy to drop in bridge ported block!

I\'ll hold fire till I\'m ready for an engine to start worrying about it!
