I know you\'re only playing :)

Clutch master looked fine, same for slave. Certainly neither were leaking and the clutch was acting as it should and felt fine.

Brake servo looked a bit ropey though!

Good too hear Clutch Cylinders are behaving as I know to replace the master is quite expensive - £145 approx in UK and I think the Slave was about £110.  Re-sealing would be the way to go as long as there isn\'t too much corrosion in the plungers and bores - but having no experience on this type of restoration I\'d be like a fish out of water (and no I don\'t mean a WHALE either) :rollin

Never had an issue with Servos either - could you expand on \'ropey\', how do you know if it\'s acting up?

The gearbox is essentially a Mazda type2 / type m, same as used in the mx5.

By eye I see no reason why an mx5 clutch master cylinder couldn\'t be used. The slave is also very similar, just with the fitting for the soft line at a different angle, with the large amount of room available I should think an mx5 slave could even be used too. I\'ve got a spare one, so I\'ll offer it up just to see.

Certainly using an mx5 master with rx7 slave felt completely normal on my mx5, and the mx5 parts are cheap as chips.

The brake servo itself just looked fairly rusty externally, I\'d be worried it\'s not too far from rotting though in a couple of spots. Seemed to work fine when I was able to drive her up that farm track.

If you are stuck for a brake servo Steve, here is a link for one on eBay (Pete Marking in Nottingham) @ £45 delivered.

Be good to hear on the interchangability (***t that\'s a big word for a Tuesday) of the master/slave cylinders - might save people money in the future?

Steve you really should,nt publicise your kinks,it could jeopardise your future.:spank

My mistake guys.

An mx5 slave would fit and work just fine, but it fouls the oil filter. The internals certainly look the same, so a mx5 slave cylinder rebuild kit should work.

I\'ll look into master cylinders when i get chance to pop the bonnet on my mums car and have a look.

Just goes to show how quickly time flies then :rollin.
You save that the MX5 would foul the oil filter - would that be for the S2 or S3 engine?  Here is a pic of Goldie\'s S2 engine and there appears to be ample space around.

Its definitely an s2 engine. The mx5 slave is identical, aside from the position of the two ports, for clutch line and bleed nipple.

The bleed nipple would be about 1/2" inside the oil filter.

EDIT: Scrap that bit about a mx5 mk3 slave fitting, different mounting spacing!

Ah - see what you mean, would make it slightly awkward to fit the clutch line and bleed nipple.  What you need is to pick up a cheap slave cylinder, the one I bought today was from Delphi - Staffordshire.

I managed to grab 2 or 3 hours yesterday in the last of the daylight to do a little more work on Rexanne.

I started by getting on with the wire wheeling of the chassis, removing the last of the old paint, under seal and rust.

I\'ve still got the front section of transmission tunnel and the inner arches to do, its a slow loud thing to be doing, so I thought I\'d break it up a bit doing a little each time I work on the car.

Unfortunately removing the under seal revealed a number of small holes and areas where the metal was very thin.

The passengers side had most holes, though there is one on the frame rail on the drivers side.  Boooo more welding time needed!

I decided to run away from it all and carry on with the rust areas I\'d already located. Seeing as it was much less windy I managed to clean up and re-weld a could of the points on the inner arch repair patch I did last week.

Having studied the other side of the car more closely, I decided to add a 2nd layre of metal to the strut tower to chassis rail repair patch I did last week. For peace of mind more than anything else.

Finally I cut up and welded in the repair section next to the steering idler arm. With the metal a little thicker this was much easier welding! Which is handy as it needed to be ground flush so the idler arm would mount properly.

Not sure how my weekend will pan out, but if all goes well I might be able to get to the bottom of the rust and start to paint the underside of the front or the engine bay. :)

1stly Steve you managed a few more hours than I did this weekend.
Considering the condition at the rear of Rexanne I think you have done really well at the front - very limited corrosion.
Yep it\'s no good getting the neighbours against you with constant grinding so good to do it in stages but nearly done for you now too.

Any more thoughts for the A frame(s).

Yeah, the front is much better than the back. Just a little frustrating in the heat of the moment to think I\'m ready to start painting it, only to find more rust!

I\'ve got a free day today, so whilst its normal week day working hours I can go a bit wilder with the grinder, I still wont make as much noise as the industrial estate a few hundred yards away! :)

A frames? Bit lost on that one mate?
