Hi,

i made 258bhp on the rollers, on standard boost in my RX7 FC .. but on the 2nd run, made less HP due to heatsoak from the standard intercooler..

i got a SMIC (side mount intercooler?? ) with the car.. and ive looked and looked for where it fits..

any ideas at all??

im well aware a V mount may be better, but it came with the car, so i might aswell use this one, til i got some monies!

cheers

dam thats a lot of power for stock boost! what mods are you running?

Side mounts are usually fitted vertically but in the engine bay oposed to in the front bumper (FMIC). Never seen on on an FC before. If you are planning on running the stock tub, an uprated top mount intercooer (usually made by ARC) is the best bet considering drivability. Front mounts are available, but usually you\'ll be looking at at custom pipes etc. If you have the intercooler but not the pipes, I\'d try and us yours as a top mount.

Standard IC is usualy considered useful up to 0.9 bar boost. Also worth remembering that heat soak isn\'t going to be as much of an issue when you\'re driving the car as you\'ll have more air flowing.

As dtheb say the smic sits behind the rad in the engine bay (like on the FD). And he\'s right thats a good figure for stock boost.
I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

it has a mapped knightsport ECU, which i belive, removed the fuel cut, and wedged the injectors fully open, hence the overfuelling! got a 3" system, air filter.. its runin 0.5 - 0.6bar of boost, so yes, 258BHP is a very good figure, with 263 lbs/ft of torque... im using the car for skidding, so i want to port the turbo wastegate and get some sort of intercooler...

the SMIC kit, sitting behind the radiator, whats the F**king point in that?!?!?! just gets heat from the Rad!! better than the standard top mount or not?

id prefer a top mount, to save F**king around with the piping... but my IC, has the inlet/outlet coming off the back, so its difficult..

have you got the internet link for the ARC intercooler?

any others you suggest? i thought of fitting a FMIC infront of the radiator, and moving the rad back 3 inches or so... but its a ballache to fit the piping past my PAS setup!

ah right so your not running stock boost then. Sounds about right.

0.6 bar with a propper 3inch system sounds like you\'ve already got a ported a wastegate, it should be running closer to 0.9 bar. Why do you want to port it if you\'re not running the maxium boost?

Heat from the rad, heat from the engine. Doubt there\'d be too much of a difference.

I\'m pretty sure people running fmic\'s with the rad in the stock place. You just need to remove the battery, or have some weird pipe work.

Just google the arc intercooler, think they\'re on ebay

Is this car beezy\'s old car? With the badass wheels?

it spikes at 0.9 bar, but for the RR.. it ran standard boost... at 258..

yes its beezys car i believe.... this one yes?

i want to port the wastegate, so i can run max boost, without it spiking all over the place... ill have a look at that ARC intercooler...

any more things you can suggest?

the engine mounts are on the way, so i picked up solid engine, trans & diff mounts... just put a wedge of rubber each side of the mount.. to stop the vibrations.. its all good :)

That ARC cooler, seems expensive, however i cant find the specific one for the RX7 ... either way, its its over £150, id rather F about with fitting a front mount.. i have plenty of piping..

cheers

I just bought an ARC top mount off soldave on here. He\'s out in japan and can source things easier and cheaper than most of us. Maybe have a look at his for sale thread and ask him to get you a price. Mine was less than £150 delivered.

Yup, I could try to get you a deal on an ARC top-mount intercooler if you\'re interested.
