Hi all :WaveBye

Got some brown rusty looking coolant water, and was advised that it\'s probably orginating from the heater matrix....can any one give some indication on how to get it out? On an FD

David Nock (RIP)

I don\'t know a thing about FD\'s Charlie but I would think, like all cars you should drain, flush with clean water and refill with fresh coolant, and most important for you - keep the heater controls at \'Hot\' all the time.
That might clean it out without having to get the heater matrix out? Why do you want to remove it? Is it blocked/leaking?

Any other views?

Well I did try the flush stuff, and the coolant has been changed at least four times lately, since on and off with radiator etc

But the brown gunk still appears

Oh right, I see.....sounds like you\'re well on the case then.

Don\'t know what else to suggest. I use only Bluecol in the FB and it comes out ....well .... Blue at each change.

Heater matrix is a pig of a job in the FD, dashboard out job, disconnect the hoses to the matrix in the engine bay passenger side, then remove the heater\\AC\\FAN assembly and its sandwiched in there, take about 3-4 hours to remove if going carefully

ahh if its removed already , then put a new matrix in whilst its out, Ive had two matrixs go on me, one with hot coolant go on a passenger, and the other go on me on the top end of the strip nice steam bath I couldnt see out the windscreen lol, they get old and the joints start to go and the fins go rusty, hence your brown colour, a rusty hole is just waiting to happen
