hi guys just wanting some information on my engine, i have a 89 EGi and have just bought a manifold and full exhaust system. After reading alot on he american forums they seem to talk about how 5th , 6th port are opened by a valve controlled by back pressure.

I don\'t want to mess this system up by fitting a new wxhaust. I am hoping that you are going to tell me that this system is controlled by a diferent electric solenoid set up.

Also is it worth going for something like a apexi safc to mod the fueling to suit new exhaust I may even sort an intake out as well while i am at it.

The extra EGI ports are rotating sleeves at higher RPM for better air flow at higher RPMs, I guess they are vacuum operated (although I don\'t have an egi) but I don\'t see how it would use back pressure?

exhuast shouldn\'t be a problem mate. They are the same as the ones on the rx8 engine. Not sure how they\'re opened, but im sure it all on the intake side of things, as they are intake ports.

Had a racing beat header on mine and you could still hear the aux ports opening at 4500 revs

I don\'t have the pdf for the EGI - but I think the 5/6 ports are opened by air from the air pump, so nothing to do with the exhaust.  There\'s an actuator and solenoid valve to control them.

excellent, i thought as much but i was getting worried by all the american sites.

Next question maybe for the prof, how involved is putting a t2 engine in an EGi? as i might be getting a donor t2 in the next few weeks.

cheers

why would you want to drop a turbo II engine into an EGI shell? the EGI will have lower spec items like brakes as they wouldn\'t need to support as much power, check out Aaron Cake\'s NA-TII project:

Brett

There\'s no difference in brakes etc between a uk egi and the t2...

Was there only a difference between the S4 and the S5 then?

Exactly, my suspension is slightly uprated anyway and if i get the \'donor\' car then i will have it full t2 spec anyway. I am doing it because i want a project (now my fd is finished) and to make it faster. just wanted information on things like wiring as i want to drop the whole lot in to it, but not sure if my looms are compatible.

m1tch

Just take the looms and ECU out of the TII then :)

Prof

Yep - loom is your biggest headache !

It\'s been done but it\'s a fair amount of work.  As Brett said - the Uk NA\'s got higher spec items.  Not sure - but I think you need the gearbox from the TII as well, as the mount holes are different between the 2 engines on the bell housing.

As i thought it is pretty much full loom swap engine and car loom + dash, i\'ll see what condition the car is in i have a feeling i will probably break it, possibly keep engine.

Yeah will just swap the complete rear subframe in as well to save head aches with custom prop shafts. it is turning in to a big job ha ha.
