After mentioning this car in passing, David Nock asked me to get some details together for his First Gen Register, which got me thinking. I was up at Super 7 today so I badgered Jason, the owner to let me push the ol\' girl out into the sun for some pics. To be fair, it didn\'t take much persuading, you can tell he loves this car, and so he should. In fact, before you could say "I only wanted a couple of pics" he was out there with the pressure washer cleaning her up.

Since I got such a priviledged chance to trunk around, it seemed very remiss not to share the pics with you guys, so here are some highlights. I probably don\'t know enough about the specs to go into detail, it was one of a limited edition of 150 for the North American market, and was owned by Jason\'s dad, Al back in Toronto. It\'s Renaissance Red, with aftermarket alloys and such things like alloy fuel tank, rear disc conversion, front airdam/splitter similar to the TWR one apparently (and broken by the shiping firm :mad:) and so on. Factory glass moonroof, too. Very very little rust anywhere because it was rust-sealed from new. Limited edition seats believed to be unique to this production run, graphic equaliser, leather steering wheel, etc....

It has had a Holley carb conversion and a home-brewed Super 7 turbo conversion added later. Please be aware that in the engine pics, it was just hastily bunged together for the photos, since it was all work in progress, please don\'t think the slight scruffiness reflects the quality of the work. You\'ll just have to mentally extrapolate the missing bits of pipework and stuff!

Some arty water droplety sorta pics to whet your appetites :D...

...and some exterior shots

I guess these are the Canadian equivalent of BBS mesh alloys

Interior pics....limited edition seats;

Mileage (errrrrr, kilometreage? :3Confused) probably not genuine....

Very, very tidy in here

Guess this was a serious stereo system in its day;

...and some engine bay pics, please bear in mind the impromptu nature of the photoshoot like I said!

That turbo conversion, neat isn\'t it

...and finally, shameless plug :Giggle bring your rotary here for work and feel the love for the way of the Rotor!

I certainly got a feeling for the affection Jason has for the car, and I can\'t say I\'m surprised, quite apart from the fact it\'s a lovely example.  It was his first and taught him a lot about rotaries, he said it\'s been in his family since he was about eleven, and since he was eleven the same time I was, I\'ll spare his blushes but attest to the fact that\'s a long time :Giggle Bet not many of us can lay claim to having the same car for like nearly three decades! I\'d like to thank him for letting me get so up close and personal with it, taking the time to talk me around it, and letting me share it with you guys here.

Thanks a million Nik and pass my grateful thanks on to Jason.
It\'s a belter of a car and I\'ll guess there\'s a lot of people on here who\'d like it
I think I can include it in my Series 1 SA collection, guessing at 1979 to 1981, though besides the turbo I note 14" wheels as well as a 13B.
Colour certainly Renaissance Red...I had an S2 in that colour many moons ago.

There\'s some surprises that come to light when you look into odd comments like \'Jason has an FB\' He certainly has, and it\'s magnificent.

That certainly is a pretty special car.

Dave, yep, 1981 sounds spot on, that\'s when I was eleven :o. J said it was a limited run to commemorate the new version of the RX-7 coming out, so that would tie in too if I remember my 1st gen history right? It was the first use of Renaissance Red to debut it coming out on the new model or something like that.

Liam, the li\'l Ninja\'s mine, dude :D

Nice SA, tho, for the record it is NOT a "Limited", in spite the badge on the B-pillar. Its actually an "Anniversary X" model, a 1980 SA special that celebrated mazda rotary sales in N.America for 10 yrs. Wheels are aftermarket, as is stereo and glass roof (steel is correct, glass was Mazda USA option, not factory). She\'s a beauty, and every bit as rare as a _real_ "Limited", which was offered as a 79 model and only came in one color: "Beat Black", a sort of metallic black. If your buddy mounted the correct red "Anniversary X" badges instead of the "Limited" - he\'d be spot-on. Would post pics of both models but Guests aren\'t permitted the luxury :(

Yeh, the Series 2 started appearing here around August 1981. One of the colour choices on the new model was Renaissance Red, Paint Code was I think R3.   :3gears-rh
