Fuel pump re-wire

Iv had a good search but not yet found any clear cut info. Im looking to do the fuel pump re-wire but unsure of which method to use or how to do it. Iv heard its possible to use a spare electrical source in the fuse holder and link it across to the fuel pump relay. Or you can wire in a new relay direct off the battery and to the pump. Which method is best and how exactly is it done?
