after I test drove an RX7 and as i pulled into the drive  to park i was in 1st gear with my foot off the clutch planning for it to roll in nicely at idle, however it stalled. the guy selling it kept pointing out it needs more revs and wasn\'t to keen on me doing 40 in 4th. I really want to buy the RX7 off of him just wanted to check the above sounds normal. Can someone help me please??!

cyman

cant say much about the idle. but my rex certainly behaves much nicer with the revs above 3k especially wen cold. driving them round at low revs at low speeds in high gear is not something i would reccomend.

thanks mate, yeah I\'m assuming the stall was more me being a spaz and not being used to the REX rather than it having a problem. I do know if your in 1st gear in most other cars it will keep moving without stalling though so I don\'t know what to make of it.......

Depends how highly modified is the car. if its reasonably stock, it shouldnt stall...if its got an aggressive clutch in there it prob will. Any well tuned FD will drive perfectly at 40mph in 4th

Thanks for that, its got me thinking... it doesn\'t have any real performance mods no....... here it is

Let me know your thoughts

Timmy

How low RPM you talking. They can start kangarooing and stall when you drop below 2000 rpm.

adamrogers3091

yeah around 2000 rpm, ok that side of things sorted, still wondering if it should have stalled with no performance mods......

cyman

ahh so you were rolling in at low revs in first gear right down to idle level with the clutch out.....

if thats the case im not surprised it stalled.

adamrogers3091

yeah thats right Cyman, me being a spaz then huh....lol. As long as thats the case then no problems with buying it and becoming more accustomed

Jit

It should hold up to 1500rpm and then start to kangaroo below that

On the ball Timmy! As i told you Adam, the reason it stalled was because the tickover was too low, i have not used the car much lately, certainly not on boost, and after a run i realised the tickover was not set high enough, that is why it stalled, it was not your driving or changing gear, the tickover settled at 400 after a blast, i have now set it where it should be at 900, the petrol may have lost a bit while its been off the road, i dont know, its fine now, you may remember it was ticking over very steady even at 400, at stand still! of course it would stall at that speed! i did not realise that was why she was a bit jerky! on low throttle at 40, as it was ok for me on the outward trip. i think the important thing to note is how quickly she re-started when very hot! plus you felt the standard car on full boost, (only briefly when it was only just safe to do so in the wet,) there is nothing wrong with the clutch or the engine, had i had time to use the car more often recently, i would have noticed the tickover being set too low. as i said i have only been doing 10 miles a week to keep the oil flowing, not blasting around on boost! if you want to try again you are welcome,
Bob

cyman

Thanks for replying in the thread Bob. I just wanted a second opinion to be sure, as I\'m generally quite cautious...... Let me call you tomorrow to talk about how I get the deposit to you at the end of the week....

I only just realised the last time i had to set the tickover was when i had an Apexi ecu on the car,(which i told you about,)i only used this to check all the codes to see if there were any faults, (there were none! ) that was on my last run to Brooklands meet! i reset it then because the tickover was too fast with the Apexi on! i havent used the car much since sadly. i was wondering what may have changed, that plus a service may well explain it! Phone when you like Adam.
