Hi again, just a quick question as im not sure on rotary engines what coolant do most people use? Do you use a specific type or will any coolant do? thanks and see you tomorrow, hopefully the weather will stay dry for us :Giggle

cheers Dave

Marcrs

I use halfords coolant and de-ionised water in mine...but I\'m no expert ;)

see you tomorrow :D

I\'ve used Bluecol in 1st Gen rotaries for twenty odd years, no probs....Change every 2 to 3 years though and mix at 40% coolant to 60% water. Rightly or wrongly I use ordinary tap water.

Bluecol is quite hard to find so I get it 5 litres at a time...

Ok cheers for the help!! See you tomorrow!!;)

I\'m with you on this one David, I\'ve always used Bluecol with tap water and never had an ounce of trouble even back in \'83 with temperatures in our area down to -22 degs C.  Our car - them a Mazda 323 SP - sat outside in all conditions and never let us down.

+1 Bluecol, but with de-ionised water...but really, as long as you change it regularly, once a year or so, it won\'t really matter what you use.

I\'ve used Mercede\'s coolant (NOT cheap!) and deioninzed water for years in my 80 RX7.
50/50. benz stuff is crystal clear, which can be unnerving ;) Some amazing write up over here as too its long-life performance esp for alum/iron engines. Stories of 100K+ mi cooling systems looking brand-new inside. Never disappointed me here in -40F Alaska winters (stored, not driven!)

Yeah - agree that regardless, changing regularly is key. I do it every 3 yrs and thats just summer only driving here in the Great Land...

Hi Stu...we call \'em 1st Generations like you but then we use Series 1 (79 to 81), Series 2 (81 to 84) and Series 3 (84 to 86).

It\'s a bit easier for us because there was only one model of each Series offered for sale at a  time (plus we had the British made Elford Turbo as an adapted Mazda model - which Mazda also supported by the way).

Cheers Dave-
appreciate clarification, tho confused how 81 FB gets slotted in with distinctive 79-80 SA styled cars - but lack of PM feature (??) on this site prevents me from asking you directly and I don\'t want to jack this thread...

No worries Stu,
I think the thread is answered OK in the posts above? Sorry Dave if not.

It\'s true that guests cannot PM. My e mail is dgnock at btopenworld dot com if you want to use that method.

I\'ve used dates of registration in the UK for distinctions between S1, S2 and S3 above. Very possible that the production lines shut down for refitting in Japan earlier for each model.
We also use the SA designation for the Series 1\'s and FB for the Series 2 and 3, based as you will know on the model letters in the VIN No.

I keep a record of all the 1st Gens still in one piece over here (including Ireland) and a record of any scrap cars as well. Presently up to 245 1st Gens left, of which 99% are RHD.
So you would have an \'80 SA GS?

stew

I have a whole bottle of Comma Extreme Green sat at home, anyone know if that\'s ok to use?

Check that it says suitable for engines with mixed Iron/Aluminium components Stew.
