Hi guys

Just rescued an RX7 Turbo II 1991. Its not been run for 5 yrs. Im aware it may need a rebuild but before condemning it, i wanted to see if i could try to get it running.

First of all, on a 1991 turbo 2, what should compression be ?

We arent getting any fuel so had a look into the fuel pump, which we couldnt hear priming. Its a UKL car with Mazda alarm but i dont think it has a fuel immobiliser.

Also, the fuel pump seems to have 5-6V going to it, is this a common issue ?

We tried hooking 12v directly to it and it just sounds locked up.

Many thanks

Mark

Not sure if its the same on the FC but on the FD there is a resistor pack that lowers the voltage at low RPM to conserve fuel et al. This may be the same thing on the FC.

If your not getting any life at 12v however does sound bad. Why not take it out of the tank and have a good look at it?
I woof in your general direction.

Hi Leon,

And thanks for your response. Yep we took it out and wired it straight up to the battery , and like i say, did next to nothing except sound broken and not pump any fuel.

Wonder where i can get one tomorrow or wednesday from !!

The wiring on the FC fuel pump is known to be an issue. Not on all of them but it is known to cause problems. Some people rewire it just for safety especially if they have just rebuilt the engine. If the car has been sat for 5 years with little or no fuel in it then maybe the pump has seized. Maybe try one of the vendors in the top banner to see if they have a good used spare one going. That way your not spending too much to find the problem.

Also get some pic\'s up of the car in the 2nd gen section.

I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

Get your finger out, get it on the road and start driving it then!!! (B.Martin 25/2/12)

FC workshop manual (think its the US spec one so don\'t trust all of the wiring diagram colours)
